Worship for January 24, 2021
We’re worshipping safely on Zoom this week and for the foreseeable future.

Be safe and at ease, Shadow Rockers. And, stay tuned.
Reflection
things are not getting worse
they are getting uncovered
we must hold each other tight
and continue to pull back the veil
see: we, the body, we are the wounded place

Read the rest of adrienne marie brown’s poem and call to action, “what is unveiled” here.

Breath Prayer for Today:
Breathing in: Give me grace to sit with
Breathing out: everything that is being uncovered.
We Covenant One With Another
Adult Spiritual Formation - 10:00 am
The season of epiphany is a great time to look for what’s new, what’s being revealed, what turning points are available to us. In our last week with this theme, we’ll discuss our turning point experiences related to national identity, patriotism, and citizenship.

Call to Worship
One: It has been an extraordinary week. In our acknowledgements and celebrations and relief, let us not forget the work that lies ahead.
All: May we roll up our sleeves and set our faces toward the future.
One: May we keep in our hearts the faces of our neighbors: the poor, the undocumented, those with health challenges, teachers, children, those facing addiction.
All: As we begin worship, we guard the flame of hope for one another.
One: May the campfires of Shadow Rock continue to encourage and energize our work and service in the world.

Balancing Word and Deed
Word About Life for Today ~ Pastor Ken
Micah 6: 6-8
“With what shall I come before the Lord,
and bow myself before God on high?
Shall I come before him with burnt offerings,
  with calves a year old?
Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams,
with ten thousands of rivers of oil?
Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression,
the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?”
He has told you, O mortal, what is good;
and what does the Lord require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness,
and to walk humbly with your God?

Introduction to Breakout Rooms and Discussion
  • Can the process of forgiveness between two people happen between groups of people? How?
  • Can you think of examples in history when forgiveness is needed?

Words for Mission
One: We leave this time together just as we gathered: in hope. We look around our screens. We pause with grateful hearts. We love this community. These are the times.
All: We are the people.
One: All of Creation is blessed.
All: May we love all and serve all.
One: May God be with you.
All: And also with you.
One: Amen.
All: Amen.
