Dear St. Paul’s UMC and Wesley Foundation Family,

Grace and peace, dear Church! We are coming near to the end of our Lenten journey of considering the everyday holiness of our lives: how God is found not in the dramatic moments only, but in the ordinary ones. We have talked about practicing things like being present and breathing; about getting lost and giving attention; about encountering others and living in our skin. This week we will consider the practice of walking. As we remember Jesus’ movement to Jerusalem, and ultimately into the final week of his life, we will wonder together about how our walking might be a way of noticing the Christ who is coming to us over and over again.

We are excited about our worship together this week, with communion at 9:00 AM, and two choirs at 10:30 AM, and we would absolutely love for you to join us, even if we haven’t seen you in a while. Come and be a part of this ongoing journey of asking, learning, and growing together!

Discussion Questions

(1) What did you notice in our worship today? Thinking not only about the words of the sermon, where did you notice the Spirit, an unexpected connection, a flicker of life, hope, or love?

(2) It is sometimes said that the destination is not the point, but the journey is. As Barbara Brown Taylor says, “The journey is the point. The walking is the thing.” Do you agree? Why or why not?

(3) How might walking as a spiritual practice help us to notice “the one who comes in the name of the Lord”? What do you notice when you walk? What if you walk more slowly? How might this noticing be just what we need?
