EVENSONG OF REMEMBRANCE

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 1, 2026, 5pm

HOLY CROSS FAITH MEMORIAL EPISCOPAL CHURCH

113 Baskervill Drive, Pawleys Island, SC

All are invited! On Sunday November 1, at 5pm the combined choirs of the Church of the Messiah and Holy Cross Faith Memorial will offer a Choral Evensong of Remembrance for all the saints we have lost in the past year. Featured works include Herbert Howells Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis in G Major and Sir C.H.H. Parry’s My soul, there is a country from his Songs of Farewell collection. We hope both congregations will attend in support of their choirs and in celebration of all the saints!

Choral Evensong is a service of Evening Prayer in the Anglican tradition where most or all of the service is sung by the choir or congregation. It is a longstanding tradition and often uses the form of Evening Prayer from the 1662 Book of Common Prayer, still in use in the Church of England. The service includes hymns, canticles, and psalms, creating a rich and reflective musical experience. This sung form of Evening Prayer is a beautiful expression of worship and is cherished in many Episcopal and Anglican communities.

Almighty and everliving God, source of all wisdom and understanding, be present with those who take counsel for the renewal and mission of your Church. Teach them in all things to seek first your honor and glory. Guide them to perceive what is right, and grant them both the courage to pursue it and the grace to accomplish it; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

IT’S KICK-OFF TIME!

Our Stewardship Season Kicks Off Sunday

with Fr. Roy’s Sermon

Stewardship Season. Every Member Canvas. Pledge Time.

Whatever you call it, it is essential to the life of the church. It allows the church leaders to be faithful stewards of the church’s resources as they plan both short- and long-term goals for the ministries. Beginning today, you will hear what, how and why you should make a pledge for Messiah. Hopefully these messages will inspire you to give of your time, talent and treasure but also to feel spiritual benefits within yourself.

Detailed information on how to pledge will soon be made available.

LUNCH WITH THE VICAR

Join Fr Roy for lunch and discussions involving faith and life. The next lunch will be in November. The tentative topic is the Gospel of Mark which is the focus of the next church year’s Gospel readings. The new church year begins the first Sunday of Advent, November 29.

The signing of purchase documents occurred the week of Saint Patrick's Day in multiple locations, beginning with Bishop Ruth Woodliff-Stanley’s signing of the documents in Charleston on Saint Patrick’s Day, March 17, 2025.

Hello!

As Parish Secretary, my primary focus is on three areas:

·        Communications – including the e-newsletter, Sunday’s bulletin, social media, and our website.

·        Supporting our Vicar, Roy Tripp.

·        Membership – transferring memberships, reaching out to visitors and the like.

Contact me (email or 843.999.0888) with any questions or assistance you may have in these areas. If you have any questions or concerns that don’t fall within the areas above, reach out to me and I’ll put you in contact with the person who can best help.

I do ask for your assistance with content for communications. Your input is invaluable.

·        Let me know about any events or projects you may be coordinating.

·        Take photos of any events or projects that would be good to include in communications; send photos to the office.

·        Suggest any improvements or corrections.

·        Suggest any ideas for social media content.

My office hours are typically Tuesdays 8:00 to noon and Wednesdays & Thursdays 8:00 to 4:00. Please know that I may be out of the office for short periods of time for church errands or lunch break; and on occasion it is necessary to switch days or take time off. If you need to meet with me for more than a few minutes, I recommend an appointment as my work does include meetings and deadlines. When I am the only one in the office, I keep the door to the building locked and the door to the Church Center unlocked. Call the office number, 843.999.0888, and I will let you in the building.

Together In Christ,

Patty Tate

Dear Reader:

The Rev. Roy Tripp is now Vicar of Messiah Episcopal Church. I am writing with deep gratitude and genuine excitement as I introduce myself as your new Vicar. I am honored to have accepted the call to serve the Church of the Messiah, and I look forward to beginning this shared ministry together.

What makes this call especially meaningful to me is the opportunity not only to serve this parish, but for my wife, Liz Devoir and I to live among you here in Myrtle Beach. I will be the first of your vicars to reside in the community, and I believe deeply that ministry is strongest when the church is rooted in the everyday life of its people—present, visible, and engaged.

I come to you with a deep love for parish ministry: worship that is reverent and alive, pastoral care that is personal and faithful, and a church that knows its neighbors by name. Alongside this, I bring an entrepreneurial approach to spirituality—one that is creative, adaptive, and attentive to how the Holy Spirit is already at work beyond our walls. In a storefront setting especially, I see opportunity: to experiment, to listen closely, and to grow organically as a community shaped by prayer, hospitality, and mission.

My hope is that the Church of the Messiah will continue to be a place where tradition and imagination meet—where ancient faith speaks clearly to present lives, and where all are welcomed to encounter Christ with honesty and hope.

I am eager to meet you, to hear your stories, and to begin discerning together what God is calling us to be and to do in this season. Please know of my prayers as we prepare for this new chapter, and I ask for yours as well.

With gratitude and anticipation,

The Rev. Roy Tripp
