When PV first asked me to write the congregation notes while he was on vacation, my only thought was, how in the world will I ever be as eloquent and thoughtful as he is every week? After agreeing, maybe a little reluctantly, I sat down to write this. I assure you, it is not eloquent, and definitely not as thoughtful as Pastor V, but here we go, nonetheless.
The other day a very wise friend posted a great reminder that when we’re tired of hearing and reading horrible printed headlines and news, that we should stop, and create our own headlines. Instead of obsessively reading more headlines about Covid-19 or horrible acts of brutality, why don’t we write our own breaking news stories? Mine today would have read, “Big Brother Helps Little Sister Pick Outfit.” It didn’t match and her shirt was on inside out, but for ten minutes in the Wing household, it was quiet. There was no yelling. There was no fighting. There was PEACE! My son’s headline would have been, “Boy and Friends Catch 5 Lizards and 1 Snake, Much to Mom’s Horror”. The beauty is that everyone’s headlines are going to look a little different. What might your headline look like today? What brought you a small moment of joy? These headlines do not eliminate the scariness of the world, or diminish others’ real pain and suffering, but sometimes, it helps to focus on something positive and simple.
Putting on my Presidential hat for a moment, I want to thank you all for putting your trust in PV, as well as our staff, and our council this year. Our council meets weekly, or sometimes more, via Zoom to make up-to-date decisions for our congregation. I am thankful for a much needed and much deserved break for PV for two weeks. He has put in a tremendous amount of work and hours to keep us spiritually nurtured during this time. While it continues to be disappointing that we are not together, I look at the beautiful collage of all the participants in online worship, and suddenly do not feel alone.
Have a great week,
Courtney Wing
