Join the Social Justice Team for a book talk on Sunday, April 12, at 11:30 a.m. in the Youth Room. We will discuss Bryan Stevenson's Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption, which is the true story of his fight to defend Walter McMillan, a black man wrongly sentenced to death in Alabama. Stevenson is also the founder of the Equal Justice Initiative, which you can learn about in his TED talk, We Need to Talk About an Injustice. Hike with us on Sunday, April 12, at 1:00 p.m. at Hoffman Evergreen Preserve, Stonington (3.5 miles, easy/moderate). The mature evergreen forests are a great home for many kinds of deep forest life that depend on old wood. The area is crisscrossed by old stone walls, a colonial highway and ancient stone structures, and is an ideal place for bird watching. Join our annual Walk Against Hunger on April 25, as we continue to support Connecticut Foodshare's efforts to raise money and awareness about food insecurity in Connecticut. Our walk will once again be at the Addison Bog trail at 10:00 a.m. You can sign up and make donations at our table after church on April 12 and 19 or on the day of the walk. Music scholarship applications are available online for student musicians in the First Church family and in the Glastonbury, East Hartford and Manchester community and are due by May 1. First Church is pleased to offer music scholarships of up to $1,500 to defray the cost of private lessons. The selection process will focus on an applicant’s interest in classical and contemporary music, especially music appropriate for sacred settings.
