Call to Worship
Opening Words with Rev. Hillary Collins-Gilpatrick
Opening Hymn
Hymn #1000 Morning Has Come
Generous Listening by Marilyn Nelson, read by Rev. Hillary
A conversation can be a contest,
or a game of catch with invisible balloons.
They bounce between us, growing and shrinking,
sometimes floating like cloud medicine balls,
and sometimes bowling at us like round anvils.
You toss a phrase and understanding blooms
like an anemone of colored lights.
My mind fireworks with unasked questions.
Who is this miracle speaking to me?
And who is this miracle listening?
What amazingness are we creating?
Out of gray matter a star spark of thought
leaps between synapses into the air,
and pours through gray matter, into my heart:
how can I not listen generously?
Lighting Our Chalice
Like the First Hint of Green by Jennifer McGlothin, read by Dal Holtrop
As the first hint of green begins to peek through the barren ground
As that little sprig grows into a healthy stem
As that stem grows into a stalk and forms a bud
As that bud slowly opens with each new day
To form a yellow daffodil
Let us be, like that first hint of green, renewed by the warm of the sun’s rays
And ready to emerge with a new energy, ready to face the day.
We light this chalice to bring a glimmer of that warmth into our space.
Time for All Ages
All Shall Be Well Again with Rev. Hillary
In the spirit of Gratitude, this week our half plate will go to Cultivating Community, our senior youth group’s planned volunteer mission planned for this summer, but likely cancelled due to the pandemic. Cultivating Community expands access to healthy local food, empowers all ages to restore the local sustainable food systems, and advocates for ecological food production. We offer our half plate in lieu of our youth’s time, and in gratitude for our youth’s redirection of their mission trip earnings to create the Congregant Relief Fund.
