Hybrid Worship
9 January 2022

Good Morning -
Welcome to Epiphany!

No matter who you are or how you participate (coming to the campus to joining online), YOU ARE WELCOME AND LOVED.

No Spiritual Formation Today
Spiritual Formation will not meet today. Later in January and February we will be looking at different aspects of the life of Jesus with an eye toward the question, "What does life with God look like?" This theme will be echoed in worship.

Create the Space
One: As we settle into this sacred place, we strive to put away the pressures of the world that ask us to perform, to deny our emotions and our embodiment, to put on brave fronts.
All: We strive to silence the voices that ask us to be perfect. This is a community of compassion and welcoming. We set an intention to live the words we proclaim: “No matter who you are, or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome.”
One: We bring all that we are and all that we yet can be, to this safe and sacred place. Join me in silence and gratitude. Amen.

Singing Our Welcome - Down by the Riverside
Gonna lay down my burdens, down by the riverside
Down by the riverside, down by the riverside.
Gonna lay down my burdens, down by the riverside
To study war no more!
Chorus
I ain’t gonna study war no more,
ain’t gonna study war no more
I ain’t gone study war no more –
I ain’t gonna study war no more, ain’t gonna study war no more. I ain’t gonna study war no more.
Gonna’ lay down my sword and shield,

Celebrations and Celebration Song
This is our time to share the celebrations of our lives: birthdays, anniversaries, words of kindness and works of peace and justice. Please be aware that we are streaming our services and what you share will be shared on the internet.

Celebrate your heart and your spirit.
Celebrate your life while you live it.
Even when it’s hard to do, celebrate the best of you.

Celebrate your dreams and your vision.
Celebrate the love you’ve been given.
Cherish all that you’ve been through, celebrate the best of you.
Invitation to Give
One: Let us marvel at the living ecosphere of our planet home.
All: Let us develop a lifestyle of giving in freedom that helps us value life, community, and balance.

A Word About Life

Luke 3:15-22
As the people were filled with expectation, and all were questioning in their hearts concerning John, whether he might be the Messiah, John answered all of them by saying, “I baptize you with water; but one who is more powerful than I is coming; I am not worthy to untie the thong of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fork is in his hand, to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his granary; but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.”

So, with many other exhortations, he proclaimed the good news to the people. But Herod the ruler, who had been rebuked by him because of Herodias, his brother’s wife, and because of all the evil things that Herod had done, added to them all by shutting up John in prison.

Now when all the people were baptized, and when Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, the heaven was opened, and the Holy Spirit descended upon him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven, “You are my Son, the Beloved; with you I am well pleased.”
