Hybrid Worship ~ Ordinary Time
13 June 2021
Good Morning - Welcome to Worship!
Whether you are getting ready to come to the campus or you're preparing to participate via Zoom, you are loved. We are community-making creatures and we are grateful to be with one another.
We Covenant One With Another
Adult Spiritual Formation - 10:00 am
Spiritual formation meets in person and on Zoom this week from the Multipurpose Room. Because of our upcoming congregational meeting (June 20 at 10:00 am), today is our last morning of formation programming before July Sabbath. We're in Romans, chapter 8 and it's getting real! When we study scripture, we start with a look at context, setting, and authorship. Everyone is welcome; everyone can contribute! If there are faith and spirituality subjects that you're curious about, email Karen to make suggestions for the Fall 2021 schedule.

Musical Call to Worship - No Matter Who

Call to Worship
a reflection on Genesis 1, adapted gratefully with permission from Michaela Nicole, @michaelaatencio

One: God made Day and Night, right?
All: But that is not all we experience... God also paints the skies with sunrises and sunsets.
One: On the second day of creation, God separated sky from water.
All: Yet the clouds hold water for us in the sky and the cycle of condensation, rain, and evaporation refreshes and renews the earth.
One: And God said, “let the water beneath the sky be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear.”
All: But this is not the whole story. God’s love of diversity can be seen in bogs and marshes, swamp and fen.
One: And God made the sun to rule the day and the moon to rule the night, and the stars.
All: But that is not all that space contains: God also made asteroids and comets, black holes and nebulae.
One: So we celebrate and honor the both/and of creation all around us, including all the variety of the human family.
All: We worship the God of more: the God of the marsh and the penguin, the clouds, the sunrise, the supernova. We worship the God of the nonbinary. Nonbinary family, we see you; we love you; we want for you what we want for ourselves: rest, safe space, and ease.

Singing Our Faith - God Is Still Speaking

Reading a Word About Life - Mark 2:23-28
One Sabbath he was going through the grain fields; and as they made their way his disciples began to pluck heads of grain. The Pharisees said to him, “Look, why are they doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath?” And he said to them, “Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry and in need of food? He entered the house of God, when Abiathar was high priest, and ate the bread of the Presence, which it is not lawful for any but the priests to eat, and he gave some to his companions.” Then he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for humankind,
and not humankind for the Sabbath; so the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath.”

Sabbath Poetry for Preparation and Intention Setting
If you are attending in person, your bulletin includes an insert with this week's poem, "Some Keep the Sabbath by Going to Church," by Emily Dickinson. If you are attending via Zoom, you can download the insert here.

Sending Forth: A Prayer of Grace and Blessing for the Human Family In Two Voices
Blessed are the sissies
Blessed are the boi dykes
Blessed are the people of color my beloved kith and kin
Blessed are the trans
Blessed are the high femmes
Blessed are the sex workers
Blessed are the authentic
Blessed are the dis-identifiers
Blessed are the gender illusionists
Blessed are the non-normative
Blessed are the genderqueers
Blessed are the kinksters
Blessed are the disabled
Blessed are the hot fat girls
Blessed are the weirdo-queers
Blessed is the spectrum
Blessed is consent
Blessed is safety
Blessed are times of rest and re-creation
Blessed are the Beloveds who I didn’t describe, I couldn’t describe, will learn to describe and respect and love.
~Mark Aguhar, "Litanies to my heavenly brown body"

One: These are the times!
All: We are the people!
One: All Creation is blessed!
All:  May we love all and serve all!
One: Peace be with you.
All: And also with you.
One: Amen.
All: Amen!

Postlude
~Community Continues~

Both in-person and online worshippers are invited to stick around for a discussion that includes responses to the sermon. In-person participants can head to the Multipurpose Room to meet up with Zoom congregants for this time together in community immediately following worship. Here is today's question:

Name one thing that you can cease doing that will help you live more fully.
