SERMON: “Dealing with Messy Situations”

Rev. Mark Dickinson, Pastor

“Once again Israel sinned by worshiping other gods, so the Lord let them be conquered by the Philistines, who kept them in subjection for forty years. Then one day the Angel of the Lord appeared to the wife of Manoah, of the tribe of Dan, who lived in the city of Zorah. She had no children, but the Angel said to her, ‘Even though you have been barren so long, you will soon conceive and have a son!  Don’t drink any wine or beer and don’t eat any food that isn’t kosher.  Your son’s hair must never be cut, for he shall be a Nazirite, a special servant of God from the time of his birth; and he will begin to rescue Israel from the Philistines.’ The woman gave birth to a boy and named him Samson. He grew and the Lord blessed him…” Judges 13:15,24

3 ways we bring trouble to ourselves

We are asking for trouble if we don’t ________________________________.

“Since you’ve acted like this, I won’t stop until I get my revenge on you.” Judges 15:7

“I merely did to them what they did to me.” Judges 15:11

We are asking for trouble if we choose ______________________________.

“But a real friend sticks closer than one’s nearest relative.” Proverbs 18:24

We are asking for trouble when we don’t ____________________________.

“O Lord God, remember me, I pray! Strengthen me, I pray, just this once, O God…”

Judges 16:28

Samson’s hair was just an outward symbol. It was not the _________________ of his strength, but the ________________ of his strength.

“The hair on his head began to grow again after it had been shaved.”

Judges 16:22
