Being Renewed
|
|
Remember the sabbath day, and keep it holy.
~ Exodus 20:8
|
|
This morning we are going to talk about being renewed by the Holy Spirit! We have been in a state of exhaustion for too many months -- we have experienced pandemic fatigue, zoom fatigue, safety fatigue, decision fatigue. How can we be renewed, especially as we face a new season? We will talk about how we were created for Sabbath and that through Sabbath, we are renewed and refreshed.
This Sunday may also look a bit different than what we’ve gotten used to in the last year. We will be live-streaming our worship service rather than pre-recording! As we prepare to welcome you back into the sanctuary in just a few weeks, we will be taking steps towards a hybrid worship model. We look forward to being in worship with you Sunday!
Please register your attendance here! You can also list prayer requests as well. To be added to the Prayer Chain click here.
See below for the Order of Worship.

Sunday Worship
June 20, 2021 - 11 AM
Being Renewed
|
|
Welcome to Trinity online.
As we prepare for a time of worship, we invite you to find an intentional space in your home for worship. We encourage you to light a candle or place something that
reminds you of Trinity or your connection with God nearby. Children are invited
to take out their worship boxes to prepare for worship.
Prelude: We Pray Now to the Holy Spirit ~ Dieterich Buxtehude
Welcome and Announcements
As we light our candles in the sanctuary, I invite you to join us in lighting your own candle at home. As we place the cross in the holder, we invite you to place something that reminds you of Trinity or your connection with God in front of you.

Call to Worship: (based on Psalm 62)
God is my rock and my salvation, I will never be shaken.
Truly my soul finds rest in God.
My salvation comes from God, my hope comes from God.
Truly my soul finds rest in God.
On God rests my deliverance and honor, my might rock, my refuge.
Truly my soul finds rest in God.
Therefore let us trust in God at all times and pour out our hearts.
Truly my soul finds rest in God.

Prayer of Confession and Pardon
Merciful God,
we confess that we have not loved you with our whole heart.
We have failed to be an obedient church.
We have not done your will,
we have broken your law,
we have rebelled against your love,
we have not loved our neighbors,
and we have not heard the cry of the needy.
Forgive us, we pray.
Free us for joyful obedience,
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
All pray in silence.
Hear the good news:
Christ died for us while we were yet sinners;
that proves God’s love toward us.
In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven!
Glory be to God. Amen.

Lord’s Prayer
Our Father,
who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

Solo: Holy Spirit, Living Breath of God
Greg Parker piano, Karen Beasley soprano
Holy Spirit, living breath of God, breathe new life into my willing soul. Bring the presence of the risen Lord, to renew my heart and make me whole. Cause Your Word to come alive in me; give me faith for what I cannot see, give me passion for Your purity; Holy Spirit, breathe new life in me. Holy Spirit, come abide within, may Your joy be seen in all I do. Love enough to cover every sin, in each thought and deed and attitude. Kindness to the greatest and the least, gentleness that sows the path of peace. Turn my strivings into works of grace; breath of God show Christ in all I do. Holy Spirit, from creation’s birth, giving life to all that God has made, show Your power once again on earth, cause Your church to hunger for your ways. Let the fragrance of our prayers arise; lead us on the road of sacrifice, that in unity the face of Christ will be clear for all the world to see.

12 The Lord said to Moses: 13 You yourself are to speak to the Israelites: “You shall keep my sabbaths, for this is a sign between me and you throughout your generations, given in order that you may know that I, the Lord, sanctify you. 14 You shall keep the sabbath, because it is holy for you; everyone who profanes it shall be put to death; whoever does any work on it shall be cut off from among the people. 15 Six days shall work be done, but the seventh day is a sabbath of solemn rest, holy to the Lord; whoever does any work on the sabbath day shall be put to death. 16 Therefore the Israelites shall keep the sabbath, observing the sabbath throughout their generations, as a perpetual covenant. 17 It is a sign forever between me and the people of Israel that in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.”
The Word of God for the People of God. Thanks be to God.

Worship Online this Sunday: While we aren’t meeting in person, we will be worshiping online via livestream on our website and through Trinity’s Facebook page.
Each Saturday evening, we will send out an email with links to the worship sites and the bulletin for worship that Sunday. This Sunday, we will invite you to be intentional about finding a space in your home to worship and to be truly present in a time of worship. For additional questions about how to worship online, please contact the Church Office.
When the Spirit Moves: A Pentecost Sermon Series (May 23-July4): What is the Holy Spirit? While the Holy Spirit is ever present in the Bible, we often struggle to understand the role of the Holy Spirit in our lives and in our faith. Through this series, we will explore the powerful and transformative role of the Holy Spirit. What we will see is that the Holy Spirit is God’s breath, our sustainer and advocate, a place of new birth and growth, and calls us into mission and purpose.

Join us in July as we explore rituals through the story of the crossing of Jordan by the Israelites. Come play with water, stones and set some new rituals as we immerse ourselves in the Bible story, sing songs, play instruments, share in communion and eat waffles. Water, coffee and juice beginning at 4:30 PM, Worship begins at 5 PM. Sign up here! For additional questions, contact Hannah Day Donoghue.

Laptop to donate? As we work to move worship to hybrid, we are also working on creating options to have hybrid meetings, gatherings and studies. As part of this set up, we are wondering if anyone has a PC laptop or desktop (don’t need a monitor) they are no longer using, that they'd be willing to donate to the church? It must run Zoom and have an HDMI port. If you do please email Hannah Day Donoghue.
Community Food Drive: Trinity is again partnering with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for a Community Food Drive on Thursday, June 24th starting at 9:00 AM. This incredible mission project has allowed us to make a significant contribution to Rising Hope’s food pantry. Please consider volunteering for the day (Community Food Drive Sign Up) as well as helping with deliveries to Rising Hope (Trinity’s Rising Hope Food Delivery). If you have questions, contact Mary Gillman.
Expanding our Partnership with Rising Hope: Rising Hope is looking for volunteers to help with unloading food and filling bags to give to clients. The shift starts at 10:30 AM and runs until about 2:30 PM(ish), depending on how many volunteers show. No advanced contact is needed, just show up.
Also, while our weekly delivery of packaged food is so very appreciated, there are personal items that are critically needed but are in low supply. If you want to contribute, bags can be placed in the bin by the church office door, across from the mailbox. We will make sure they are included in the weekly delivery. Below are a list of needs.
- Diapers (size 4 are the most requested, but, larger sizes are always needed)
- Toilet paper
- paper towels
- dish soap
- pot scrubbers
- toothpaste
- toothbrushes
- bar soap
- deodorant
They also stock a “homeless shelf” with items such as tuna or chicken salad snack packs, peanut butter crackers, Ensure drinks, water, applesauce or small fruits and vegetables, pop-top can meals, crackers, etc. for those who do not have access to a kitchen. Please consider these items, as well. Paper bags are also welcome. For additional questions or concerns contact Mary Gillman.
Volunteers Needed to Help with Food Ministry: Mission is seeking volunteers who are willing to make food deliveries to Rising Hope Mission Church on Tuesday or Thursday mornings. Someone from the Mission Team will determine delivery contents and will help you load your vehicle. Sign up here. For additional questions or concerns contact Mary Gillman.

Did you know you can support Trinity UMC with a tax-free transfer from your IRA? If you are age 72 (or 70½ before Jan 1, 2020) and have a Traditional, Rollover, SEP, or SIMPLE IRA, you are required by law to take Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) annually. But did you know that you can use the RMD as a way to make a tax-free transfer to a charity, including Trinity UMC? The transfer must be directly from your IRA to Trinity, and your broker can help you with this process so that you get the full tax benefit. Please notify Trinity when you authorize a transfer so that we may confirm receipt.
Another way to provide financial support to Trinity is with a gift of stock. Please consult with your broker and a tax adviser (prior to selling stocks intended to benefit Trinity) on how to handle to maximize the tax benefits. But if you do decide to give stock – please contact the church help. We can provide a form for your broker or tax adviser to facilitate the transfer.
As always, Trinity is very grateful for any gifts. It makes everything we do at Trinity possible. If all else fails - please contact Rich McKinney. Thank you again for your giving - no matter how you give!
