Toe-Tapping Time

Chicago's 25 or 6 to 4. Count Basie's Shiny Stockings. Horace Silver's The Jody Grind. All three wowed listeners at the Lebanon All-District Jazz Concert. Performers at the Lebanon Opera House included jazz bands from Grantham, Plainfield, and Lebanon High and Middle-School. The East Bay Jazz Band & Friends, whose players include teachers and parents, sizzled through a tasty set, too.

Produced by JAM's Charlie Rose and Rick Russell

Through a sheep's eyes

Mary Lake of Tunbridge, VT, is a shepherd. Besides raising flocks of 60 sheep for the past 13 years, she's a butcher and shearer. Her VT Humanities Council lecture at the Norwich Library came on the first day of lambing. Lake's goals for herself and her clients are healthier, happier animals; improved soils; parasite management; and reducing anxiety in sheep's lives. (Yes, even sheep get stressed.)
