FROM THE FARM
Salvaterra's Gardens
Despite the frigid temps, Salvaterra's is still growing! Look for spinach, just-picked spring mix and kale for healthy holiday salads. Not sure what to do with those big ol' collard greens that you see at Salvaterra's? Try this easy NY times Cooking recipe for Pasta with Collards and Onion. Sweet Hakurei turnips and radishes are terrific sliced raw and tossed in a salad, or roasted with a little olive oil and sea salt. Grab some red or green cabbage for winter slaws and stir fries, or try making your own sauerkraut for New Year's - here's a recipe! And don't forget carrots and parsnips for soups and stews. Or try this recipe for Cinnamon Butter Baked Carrots for your holiday dinner and sprinkle with Salvaterra's freshly chopped parsley. Matt will have beautiful cilantro too - and this ain't that sad little cilantro you see in the supermarket.
Scholl Orchards
"Chestnuts roasting on an open fire..."
Scholl's will have chestnuts this week! Plus loads of winter squash, and beautiful heads of cauliflower and cabbage. And don't miss the red and gold beets; they're perfect in a winter salad. There will be sweet potatoes (great in soups or for mashing), regular potatoes and onions too, plus a nice array of jarred items - perfect for holiday gift baskets or teacher gifts! Stop by the EFM INFO tent for a free gift wrapping on jarred items!
