Unraveling Dyslexia #4 - First for 2023

The International Dyslexia Association Georgia, The Reading League Georgia, and the Georgia Department of Education have partnered to bring you this final live webinar in our Unraveling Dyslexia series. This event is FREE and OPEN to all. Certificates of Attendance will be available for registrants who complete a post-webinar knowledge check/survey form.

DESCRIPTION

The four-part GaDOE Dyslexia Video Series was developed through a partnership between the Georgia Department of Education and the Mary Frances Early College of Education at the University of Georgia. In each of our "Unraveling" webinars, Dr. Sayeski has “unraveled” the content presented in each video. Dr. Sayeski and Dr. Lindstrom have then answered questions to clarify further the information presented and provide guidance on how best to support students with dyslexia in the school setting. “Structured Literacy & Dyslexia” is the fourth and last video in the series. This video explains what is meant by a structured literacy approach to reading instruction and what this means for students with dyslexia. First, the features of explicit, systematic, and cumulative instruction are described, followed by an explanation of how these features can be applied within the delivery of effective reading instruction. Next, the content elements of a structured literacy approach are reviewed, which include decoding, spelling, writing, and comprehension. Finally, the features of instruction specifically for students with dyslexia are delineated.

Register here.

If you were unable to attend our first three webinars in this "Unraveling" series, you can watch the recordings. We have set up a playlist on the IDA-GA YouTube Channel. Click here for the Unraveling Dyslexia: A Closer Look ... playlist.

2023 Spotlight on Structured Literacy

Registration Opening Soon

Kicking Off the Series on Jan. 18

After the Jan. 4 "Unraveling" event about Structured Literacy and Dyslexia, you are likely going to want to learn more about HOW an educator can implement SL in the classroom. Mark your calendar for our next webinar series, "Spotlight on Structured Literacy" - Jan. 18, Feb, 8, March 1, and March 29.

We considered who would be the perfect person to kick off this IDA-GA/TRL-GA 2023 Spotlight on Structured Literacy Webinar Series, and Anita Archer immediately came to mind. If you have not had the opportunity to hear Dr. Archer speak, you are in for a treat. If you have had the opportunity, you are no doubt excited to hear her words of wisdom again and to let your colleagues know about this opportunity. IDA-GA and TRL-GA are bringing this series to you at NO COST. Registration as well as additional details about each event will be available after the first of the new year.

2023 IDA-GA Dimensions of Dyslexia Conference (In-Person!)

We are bringing back IDA-GA's in-person Dimensions of Dyslexia Conference. For the first time ever, we will be hosting the conference at the end of August instead of in February. Stay tuned for details. If you or your school/company are interested in receiving information about being a sponsor or having a vendor table at the event, please email us at info@idaga.org.

2023 Scholarship Applications Opening Jan. 9

The new IDA-GA teacher scholarship application opens January 9. The goal of the IDA-GA Scholarship Program is to offer scholarships for individuals interested in taking courses to learn more about the Science of Reading and how to implement the research in the classroom via Structured Literacy. Structured Literacy instruction is the kind of instruction that benefits all students but is essential for students with dyslexia. Be sure to tune in to our Unraveling Dyslexia webinar on January 4 at 7 pm to learn more about the Structured Literacy-Dyslexia connection.
