This has been one of the most exciting years in the history of E4A. We celebrated the retirement of our illustrious founder, Dr. Nancy Alder, in conjunction with welcoming nationally and internationally recognized racial equity scholar Dr. Amani Allen, as our new E4A director. We funded amazing teams conducting action-oriented research through our open and rolling racial equity Call for Proposals (CFP), “Innovative Research to Advance Racial Equity.” We also released a new deadline-driven CFP, “Indigenous-Led Solutions to Advance Health Equity and Wellbeing”. We are accepting applications now! We want to express our deep gratitude to the Johns Hopkins Center for Indigenous Health and the many other Indigenous community members who contributed to the development of this CFP.
As momentous as this last year has been, we’re anticipating 2024 is going to be even more thrilling. Dr. Allen is leading E4A in developing new strategies to advance our mission of promoting the field of action-oriented health equity research by practicing an approach that is intentionally anti-racist, anti-colonial, and focused on solutions that are innovative and push beyond the status quo. This includes working with partners across sectors to shift power dynamics in the health science knowledge system and embracing a shared understanding of scientific rigor that is inclusive of a variety of ways of knowing. Consistent with this new mission, we will be launching the “Ways of Knowing” symposia in collaboration with Partners for Advancing Health Equity. Ways of Knowing is a series of five collaborative events focused on cultivating a more holistic appreciation of the different ways people understand the world and fostering appreciation of a standard for scientific rigor that is more inclusive and equitable. Stay tuned for more information about the symposia in January 2024!
This has been a year of contemplation, transformation, and introspection. We are excited about all that is to come and we thank you, our partners, for your continued support and engagement as we work collectively to advance racial health equity. We can’t wait to see what’s in store for 2024.
