Flatbush Zombies Rock with CAMBA
Flatbush Zombies (l-r) Erick Arc Elliot, Meechy Darko and Zombie Juice with CAMBA's Melissa Fisher (Director of Development).
Thanks to the incredible generosity of the indy rap group Flatbush Zombies, hundreds of CAMBA clients enjoyed a magical holiday season. With a rapidly growing fan-base, the "Zombies" donated the net proceeds of $4,620 to CAMBA from their December 12th holiday concert! Earlier on November 28th, the group used their popularity to reach out to their loyal fans to encourage them to support those less fortunate this holiday season. That appeal brought in 200 toys that were donated to The Landing Shelter in Queens. The Flatbush Zombies' efforts were music to our ears. Learn more about the group in this New York Times article.
High School Seniors March for College
Senior Students of CAMBA's Learning To Work Participation at the College March
On December 14th, graduating high school seniors in CAMBA's Learning to Work (LTW) program at the James Baldwin HS in Manhattan gathered to mail their college applications. The Chelsea neighborhood high school was part of the Annual College March, a nationally observed day every December by thousands of high school seniors bringing their applications and other material to their local post office. LTW is a program that works with students to overcome obstacles that may be preventing them from obtaining a high school diploma and pursuing additional education or employment after graduation. Marching their applications to the post office makes the prospect of going to college very real. We wish all these seniors the best of luck--and positive responses!
Holiday Fun at CAMBA Gardens I
Residents of CAMBA Gardens dressed up as Santa Claus celebrating with child resident.
On December 19th, CAMBA Gardens hosted a holiday party for their littlest residents. Along with some pizza and cookies, the kids enjoyed some one-on-one time with Santa and opened gifts. The New York office of the news service Gannett made the donations, and their generosity cheered the kids of CAMBA Gardens!
The NYPD Bearing Gifts at Kensington
