WRAPPING UP 2024 WITH GRATITUDE AND HOPE

Dear WAMAL Family,

As 2024 winds to a close, we find ourselves reflecting on a year that was, in a word, interesting. It brought its fair share of changes and challenges—everything from presidential elections to climate disasters, with back-to-back hurricanes in the Southeast and a Bomb Cyclone here in the Pacific Northwest. AI development surged, transforming industries and conversations alike.

And yet, through it all, WAMAL remained steadfast in doing what we’ve done since 1998—saving Malamutes. This year, 30 Malamutes came into our care, and 28 found their “furever” homes. Several of these pups arrived with significant medical needs, and, in addition, routine vet care—immunizations, spaying, and neutering—quickly added up. In total, WAMAL spent over $45,000 this year to ensure the Malamutes in our care received the medical treatments they deserved.

2024 also brought changes within our organization. With some of our dedicated volunteers transitioning out of their roles, we’re looking to welcome fresh faces and new ideas onto our team in 2025. We’re currently seeking passionate individuals to take the lead in our Fundraising efforts, a vital role that enables WAMAL to continue rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming Malamutes in need. One of our most anticipated events, the Loots for Moots Online Auction, needs an enthusiastic coordinator to bring it to life again this year. In addition to fundraising, there are countless other ways to get involved! We’d welcome your dedication and talents by joining our Owner Support, Adoption, Foster, Events, or Home Visit teams! Feel free to email board@wamal.com for more information.

Not able to volunteer but still want to support our mission? There are plenty of ways to help!

  • Join the Fun: Participate in our Poorly Drawn Pets fundraiser (coming May 2025) or Loot for Moots Online Auction (late October 2025) or come up with a fundraising idea you’d like to implement (email ideas to fundraising@wamal.com).
  • Send Some Love (and treats): Check out our Chewy and Amazon wish lists for items our pups always need.
  • Give Directly: Contribute to our “Paws Up to Help 2024” Campaign for everything from treats to vet care; donate via PayPal Giving Fund; or, explore matching gift programs through your employer.
  • Sponsor a Pup or Support Our Seniors: Learn about Sponsorships or donate to Randy’s Fund for Senior Care.

As we close out this whirlwind year, we want to thank each of you for your unwavering support. Whether you’re a volunteer, donor, or loyal follower of our mission, you make everything we do possible. Because of you, Malamutes in need are finding hope, healing, and loving homes.

Here’s to a holiday season filled with joy, a New Year brimming with promise, and a community united in love for these incredible dogs.

With gratitude and warmest wishes,

The Malley MUSE Team
