Hello, Master Trainers and Class Leaders!
We have reached the final month of the year, which means it's a perfect time to reflect. December is not just a month of festivities; it's also a time for closure, reflection, and preparation for the year ahead. With the holiday spirit in the air, I hope you will join me in embracing joy, gratitude, and excitement to conclude 2024.
There have been many changes and updates with Powerful Tools for Caregivers in 2024. I've gathered some important reminders and updates that I hope will be helpful as you plan your 2025 PTC class series.
1. The Caregiver Helpbook
-
There will be an updated version of the book used alongside the class series some time in 2025. At this time, I do not have a more specific timeline I can provide. Following the October announcement of low stock, we have sold all physical copies of The Caregiver Helpbook. Going forward, the only option for purchase will be the eBook. Please keep the following in mind:
-
You will not be able to print the eBook.
- You should purchase the same number of licenses as participants. If you have six participants, you should purchase six copies of the eBook. We are trusting your professional ethics that the correct number of licenses are ordered.
2. Conducting the 6-week Caregiver Class Series
-
All scheduled class series should be reported to PTC Headquarters using the 'add an upcoming class' form. If you forget to report the class series until it concludes, please use the 'add a completed class' form.
-
Every class series should have a minimum of two (maximum of three) licensed Class Leaders to co-facilitate. The Class Leaders who facilitate Class One should be the facilitators for the remaining classes.
- Only facilitators and caregiver participants should be present during class time. Additionally, recording any class series is not permitted. These are two ways we support caregivers to share openly without privacy concerns. Please review the Implementation Guide in your Class Leader Materials for how to handle an emergency when one Class Leader may not be available for a session.
-
All class series should be conducted over six consecutive weeks, unless there is a national holiday or an emergency (i.e. unscheduled/unplanned) with a Class Leader and a substitute is not available to fill in for the Class Leader absence for an emergency.
- There is a certificate of completion included in your Class Leader Materials. This is optional, but recognizing the work caregivers completed over six weeks is important!
3. License Fees
-
Beginning July 1, 2025, there will be an increase in the licensing fee for new Class Leaders and Master Trainers. If you have a scheduled Class Leader Training on our website and need the listed fee updated, please reach out and I will happily make the necessary updates to our records and the website. If you have Class Leader Training planned for 2025, please be sure to report your class series (using this form) at least three weeks in advance. The updated license fees are:
-
Class Leader license: The license fee for Class Leaders will be $270 (currently $200).
-
Master Trainer license: The license fee for Master Trainers will be $340 (currently $250).
If you have any questions or concerns about the above, please do not hesitate to reach out (ptcaregivers@iastate.edu). I welcome the opportunity to hear your concerns and receive feedback.
We remain committed to supporting the well-being of caregivers with the highest-level criteria of evidence-based health promotion. Thank you for bringing PTC to your community and supporting caregivers.
Wishing you and yours well this holiday season,
Katie Anthony, Ph.D.
