Through a Series of In-Depth Masterclasses, Focusing on Chamber
and Solo Piano Works of Franz Schubert, Wu Han will Lead Students
on an Exploration that will Culminate in Two Performances on
December 14 and April 6

Masterclasses to be Streamed Live Beginning in October
NEW YORK, NY — World-renowned pianist, Wu Han , has been appointed Artist-in-Residence at the John J. Cali School of Music at the Montclair State University. This special position was created by the university for a master in the field that would bring their wide-ranging expertise to their community. Named Musical America ’s "Musician of the Year”, Wu Han—who has risen to international prominence as a concert performer, artistic director, recording artist, educator, and cultural entrepreneur—will bring her wealth of knowledge to students through a series of coachings and public masterclasses that focus on the solo piano works and chamber pieces of Franz Schubert.

Masterclasses in the Fall 2019 will take place in Leshowitz Recital Hall, on the campus of Montclair State University. They are free and open to the public, and will be streamed live , starting in October. The dates and times are listed below.

In addition, each semester of the masterclass series will end with two free concerts in Leshowitz Hall that feature Wu Han performing alongside students who participated in the series. The Saturday, December 14 performance will include chamber works by Franz Schubert and will be at 7:30pm, and the performance on Monday, April 6 at 7:30pm will focus on the composer’s solo piano works.

Our international roster includes students not only from local New Jersey towns, but also from places as distant as Japan, China, Iran, and Venezuela.”
About Wu Han
Wu   Han  is among the most esteemed and influential classical musicians in the world today. She is a recipient of  Musical America’s  “Musician of the Year” award and has risen to international prominence through her wide-ranging activities as a concert performer, recording artist, educator, arts administrator, and cultural entrepreneur. In high demand as a recitalist, soloist, and chamber musician, Wu Han appears at many of the world’s most prestigious venues, and performs extensively as duo partner with cellist David Finckel. Together, they co-founded ArtistLed, classical music’s first musician-directed and Internet-based recording company, whose catalogue has won widespread critical praise. Recent recordings include a set of three Wu Han  LIVE  albums, a collaborative production between the ArtistLed and Music@Menlo  LIVE  labels. That latest captures Wu Han's live performances of Fauré's piano quartets from the festival. Complementing her work as a performing artist, Wu Han artistic partnerships bring her to new audiences here and abroad: she is Artistic Advisor of The Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts’ Chamber Music at the Barns series, co-founder and artistic director of Music@Menlo Chamber Music Festival and Institute in Silicon Valley, and serves as co-artistic director for Chamber Music Today in Seoul, Korea.
