REGULAR MONTHLY PROGRAM

There are no regularly scheduled monthly programs until Friday, September 20, 202. Wyncote Audubon schedules regular monthly programs from September through May. Our programs take place at the Upper Dublin Public Library, 520 Virginia Drive, Fort Washington, PA 19034 and are typically scheduled for the third Friday of each month with variations due to holidays. Programs are free! We welcome all members and friends for refreshments provided at 6:30 PM before the presentations at 7:00 PM. We encourage registrations for our programs and offer the programs via zoom for individuals not able to attend in person.

FIELD TRIPS

A Note About Our Field Trips: We encourage participants to regularly check both the Wyncote Audubon Society website and Facebook page in advance of a field trip as the meeting location can change due to road construction, a park closure, weather conditions, or other last-minute reasons. If you have any questions about a field trip, please contact: wyncotefieldtrips@gmail.com. Plan to arrive a few minutes before the scheduled time of the field trip. The time stated is the STARTING time, not the arrival time. This will give you time to get yourself ready, say hello, visit a restroom, and be ready to go. For all-day trips, please come prepared with lunch and have a full tank of gas.

Participant Release: Your decision to participate in an Audubon field trip or event signifies that you agree to not hold the Wyncote Audubon Society or any of its agents responsible for any accidents, losses, damages, or injuries resulting from your participation in the field trip or event.

Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge

8:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Saturday, August 10, 2024

Join Margaret Rohde and Kristy Morley to explore this 15,978-acre National Wildlife Refuge located along the coast on Delaware Bay. It is a migratory stopover and a breeding ground for migratory and wintering waterfowl along the Atlantic Flyway. This field trip is timed to catch the southward bound migration of shorebirds as they leave their breeding grounds in the arctic. We will drive the automobile routes within the refuge with frequent and extended stops at different vantage points to view birds. Note that an entry fee is required to enter the refuge. This is a full-day trip, so bring lunch and plenty of water for the day. Insect repellent and suntan lotion is recommended. Bring binoculars and spotting scopes if you have them available! Meet at the headquarters building at 2591 Whitehall Neck Road, Smyrna DE 19977

PRE-REGISTRATION FOR THIS FIELD TRIP IS NECCESARY IN THE EVENT THAT THE REMNANTS OF HURRICANE DEBBY REQUIRE US TO CANCEL THIS FIELD TRIP. A MESSAGE WILL BE SENT TO YOU AND THE OTHER FIELD TRIP REGISTRANTS.

LORIMER PARK

Provide Input for the Lorimer Park Master Plan

Montgomery County is in the process of developing a plan to guide the future of Lorimer Park. Lorimer Park is a vital link in the Pennypack watershed between the Pennypack Park in Philadelphia and the land protected by the Pennypack Ecological Restoration Trust. The National Audubon Society has designated Lorimer Park as part of an Important Bird Area, a system created by Bird Life International. It is a critical stopover area for migrating birds in the spring and fall and an important breeding area for critical species like the Wood Thrush and Scarlet Tanager. Jennifer Sherwood has conducted a monthly walk at Lorimer for the Abington Bird Town. To provided input please go to:

BIRD SAFE PHILLY

 CALL FOR FALL MONITORS

It's that time of year again - fall migration is incoming, and we need your help! We are looking for volunteers who can help monitor at: Center City, Independence Hall, and/or Grays Ferry. No previous experience with birds required, and monitoring happens before work hours! If interested, please contact us at birdsafephilly@gmail.com. We (and the birds) appreciate your help!

WYNCOTE AUDUBON ON-LINE AUCTION

Lela Stanley, a member of Wyncote Audubon’s Bird Safe Philly Committee, is taking the lead to create an  “on-line auction” for Wyncote Audubon to raise funds to support the work of our committee for projects that address the mitigation of bird collisions that we promote on behalf of Bird Safe Philly. We are indebted to the Appalachian Audubon Society for providing us with guidance on getting this program off and running. More details will be forthcoming on how members and friends can participate. But for now our need is to add to our growing list of items that will attract potential bids to the auction when it kicks off on line this fall. This is not intended as a “white elephant” sale but rather worthwhile items of value related to birds and nature. We welcome the contribution of “one-of-a kind” art pieces and other unique items that will draw interest. If you have items of value like art work, books, services, etc. that you are willing to donate to the auction effort please contact Lela Stanley at lelastanley@gmail.com.
