The Wyncote Audubon Society is hosting its’ first Annual Luncheon after over three decades of sponsoring our annual gathering as an evening dinner event. The luncheon is a wonderful opportunity for members and friends to come together in a social setting, hear a program presented by an outstanding speaker, and celebrate the work of outstanding people who have made meaningful contributions to conservation.

The keynote program is “Louis Agassiz Fuertes – A Celebration of Birds” presented by Robert McCracken Peck. Judy Stepenaskie will be honored with the presentation of the Edward Hicks Parry Award and Stephen Maciejewski will be honored with the presentation of the John Dornan Conservation Award.

123RD Audubon Christmas Bird Count (CBC)

The date for the Wyncote Audubon CBC count is: Saturday, December 17, 2022. There will be a number of “teams” that will head out to cover their assigned areas and report the birds they count in each location.

Our count area is the fifteen-mile diameter count circle that is centered at Briar Bush Nature Center. If you have participated in past counts you can expect to be contacted by your area leader to learn details for meeting them on count day. If you are not a past participant in the Wyncote CBC but would like to volunteer this year, please reach out to Kristy Morley at Wissahickon Trails: kristy@wissahickontrails.org to be assigned to one of teams. We are hoping for good weather and a great day of birding!

ABINGTON BIRD TOWN WALK

Lorimer Park from the Welsh Road Parking Lot

Join Jennifer Sherwood, Chair of Abington Bird Town for this monthly bird walk at Lorimer Park. We will walk portions of the Pennypack Trail and trails in Lorimer Park, an official Audubon IBA (Important Bird Area). These walks are being sponsored by the Abington Bird Town, and the Abington Environmental Advisory Council, and supported by the Wyncote Audubon Society. Directions: Meet at the Welsh Road Parking Lot, 800 Welsh Road, Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006. This lot is an access lot for the Pennypack Trails

Wyncote Audubon has scheduled a special birding trip with Hillstar Nature to Magee Marsh, for an exciting five days of birding for spring migrants in this iconic birding hot spot! Here is the link below to details about the proposed Wyncote Trip to Magee Marsh next May with Hillstar Nature! Josh Covill will be our birding guide. There will not be an advanced and fixed itinerary for this trip. We will stay in a centrally located motel and travel to the locations dictated by the birds on any given day! The trip is designed for a minimum of four to a maximum of ten people. The 2022/2023 Wyncote Audubon Annual Appeal is underway now! This is the major fundraiser to help support Wyncote Audubon’s diverse activities. As an all-volunteer organization, the funds raised go to support our programs, our education and outreach, our sponsorship of Audubon Adventures schools, and so much more!
