Weekly Newsletter

9/7/22

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful. And kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And you will review the face of the earth. Amen.

Weekly Mass

Mass is generally celebrated 9:30 am on Tuesdays at Xavier Middle School. (See the calendar for occasional alternate mass days/times.) We welcome you to join us! Please check in the school office to be directed to the auditorium.

Parent Night - Wednesday, September 7th

We hope you can mark your calendars and join us for Parent Night on Wednesday, September 7th, 6:30-8:00. This is a great night for you to hear our middle school philosophy and meet the teachers who interact with your child.

Birthday Treats

Birthdays are special and we realize it is an exciting day for each student! We announce birthdays in the morning, and students are allowed to bring a treat for their KIDS group if desired. Please contact your child’s KIDS advisor a few days in advance so that he/she is aware of the treat and making any accommodations needed for the students.

Birthday treats are not allowed in the lunchroom. In the past, students have had cookies, cupcakes, pizza,(and yes, even a rotisserie chicken once), to be shared with the kids at the lunch table. This will not be allowed. If treats are dropped off after the morning KIDS group, the student can hand them out during KIDS at the end of the day.

Thank you for understanding. We want to celebrate in a way that is appropriate for middle school and safe for all involved.

2022-2023 MAP Testing

XMS Students will be participating in standardized tests called Measures of Academic Progress™ (MAP). Xavier Catholic Schools will administer student MAP tests during the fall and spring for grades 2 thru 10 to determine a child’s instructional level and to measure academic growth in the areas of reading, language arts and math. At XMS, testing will take place over 3 weeks. Next week is the Math test, during the week of 9/19 students will take the Language Arts test, and the week of 9/26 will be the Reading test. Please help your child(ren) do their best by making sure they have a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast.

Newspaper Club

Are you a passionate writer who is interested in learning about newspaper production and print journalism? Come check out Newspaper Club! Newspaper Club will provide the opportunity for students to develop their speaking, listening, and writing skills. Students will work together to interview sources, conduct research for stories, and to produce the school newspaper. The club will meet weekly on Mondays after school until 4:00pm in Mrs. Much's classroom, room 1121. All students are welcome! For more information Please visit Mrs. Much’s teacher webpage.

Celebrate Brainstorming/Kickoff Volunteer Meeting:

Thursday, September 8th at noon in the XHS Library

Celebrate is the primary single event fundraiser benefitting the entire Xavier system.  It is traditionally a gala with a dinner, auction, entertainment, etc.  We are considering mixing it up and making some exciting changes—PLEASE come and help us brainstorm and decide what this year will look like.   Everyone is encouraged to volunteer as this event is a system-wide effort benefiting the entire school system.  It is also a great way to get to know fabulous people from other campuses.

Celebrate meetings are held once a month.  This year’s kickoff meeting will be held on Thursday, September 8th at noon in the library at Xavier High School (we will have people there giving directions to the library).  At that meeting we will discuss the optimal meeting dates and times moving forward.

Please plan to join us to brainstorm and have some fun while we come together, catch up, and meet new friends.  It takes many helping hands to make Celebrate a successful event and we really need great volunteers who want to have fun while getting things done.  The meetings are also a great way to provide input and suggest any ideas you have.  Children not in school yet are always welcome.

Bonus:  there is always chocolate!

Questions or can’t attend, but still want to be involved?  Contact Lisa Pfaff at [email protected] or 735-9380.

School Directory
The school directory will be underway when school gets started.  For each student we will include their name and grade, their parents’ names, email address(es), and phone numbers. If you do not want to be included in the directory, or want to include/leave out specific information, please email Mrs. Cerdan at [email protected] by Monday, September 12th. Thank you.
