XTO Energy Inc., a subsidiary of ExxonMobil, has added 20 jobs to its Williston Field Office. These moves came with the closure of their metro Denver office on Sept. 1, 2017. The closure was part of a larger effort to move employees closer to the field. Williston's newest residents are high level employees involved with XTO's Bakken operations. Matthew Deveau, Operations Manager, was the first Denver-based senior company representative to make the move to Williston. He paved the way for the others by overseeing the office build-out and getting acclimated to living in western North Dakota. He said the transition has gone better than he expected; both at work and home. Read More

The Williston Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors helped ProMed Plaza and Live in Motion
Physical Therapy Specialists celebrate their grand openings on Thursday, Jan. 25. The 18,000 square foot medical office building was built by Robert Howard Ph.D. to house his MedScan Laboratory and Advanced Drug Testing businesses. His daughter-in-law, Heather Howard, PT, DPT owns and operates Live in Motion. Heather employs three additional physical therapists and an athletic trainer. ProMed Plaza has room for another medical practice on the main floor. The building is located at 1502 13th Ave W in Williston (near Outlaws Bar & Grill).

Williston entrepreneur and speech and language pathologist will share how she started her private practice at 1 Million Cups on Wednesday, Feb. 7. Katie Kringen, owner of Chatter Pediatric Therapy, saw her first patients in a make-shift office at her husband's motorsports store.
"Only in Williston could you buy a four-wheeler and receive speech therapy in one building," laughed Kringen. Katie, a native of Bottineau, ND, received her Bachelor and Masters degrees in Speech & Language Pathology from Minot State University. She and her husband Josh moved their young family to Williston in 2015 and began Chatter. Initially, Katie housed her practice at their Mondak Sports dealership. Read More

The Williston Walmart is getting some upgrades. "Across the nation, we're the only store in North Dakota that will be remodeling other than Wahpeton, and so Wahpeton will get a remodel, as well," said Williston Walmart store Manager Josh Comer. Comer says one of the changes is expanded product offerings in the health and beauty section, including a larger selection of ethnic products. In the grocery section you will also find more ethnic foods, new produce and new deli counters. Comer also says many customers will be pleased to find the craft section restored. Electronics will be stocked with new items, and Walmart will also be carrying industrial tools.

From icon to eyesore, the burnt out shell of the 100 year old Hedderich's building is garnering more gloomy stares these days and some folks are wondering, "how things are moving forward?" More than six and a half months later, Public Works Director David Tuan is one of those people. "Unfortunately, we're not in the drivers' seat, since we do not own the property, but at some point very soon a deadline will be given and we'll have to either look to the property owner to make something happen or encourage him to find someone to help him," says Tuan.

The Williston City Commission has approved 20 Community Enhancement grant applications totaling $50,000. The Community Enhancement program is part of the Williston STAR Fund. Each year, up to $50,000 is allocated to nonprofit groups and projects. Williston Economic Development Executive Director Shawn Wenko said the program helps improve the quality of life in the Williston region. "This year was a record year for applications," said Wenko. "We had 37 organizations apply with close to $477,000 in requested funds. Definitely an indication activity is on the upswing." Read More

The City of Williston is working with a consulting firm to attract more airline carriers to Williston. According to Anthony Dudas, Williston Airport Director, Trillion Aviation
will help the city set up meetings with carriers to help educate them about the demand for flights out of Williston, as well as share information about the local economy to show the need for more flights. Dudas said in an interview recently, Sloulin Field is in a difficult position because the largest jets it can accomodate carry 50 passengers, and more carriers are planning to use larger planes. Traditional and low-cost carriers all want to use planes that can carry between 75 and 110 passengers.

 The Williston police quietly wrap up work on a long running issue that could have effected response time to crime scenes and other emergencies, thank goodness says Cheif David Peterson, that didn't come to pass. Dark spots in their radio network. "Literally places in our community where our radios little to no coverage, and it was really a day to day whether that coverage was there," says Chief Peterson. Replacing radios in both patrol units and hand-held units as well booster towers have been part of the pricey solution, but response times are now optimal.

Back in the 80s boom, many builders came to Williston, but not all were up to par. And, more often than not, those builders of the moment didn't stick around to fix the problems they built. In 2009, with another boom beating on the Williston doorstep, business leaders in the community realized they needed to do something different about the impending onslaught. What they did was start a Williston Area Business Association. Ken Callahan was the organization's first president, and he has just been honored two years running now for nearly a decade of work on behalf of Williston's business industry.
