July 6th , 2018
Hopefully everyone had a great July, 4th holiday on Wednesday, the dog days of summer are here and now is when we could use some of that early June rain to make more grain! This week for us we started covering acres with our customer Hagie Y-Drop machine, (we do have some openings early next week for those interested in us covering some acres). A lot of corn is starting to tassle this week, marking a crucial time for the crop. You can see the ear found in a plant on Tuesday, we will continue to post updates as we find them!

Scout Now for Grey Leaf Spot and other Diseases, Treat Now with Yield 360 Under Cover
CTCT-20180628_142908
Over the past couple of weeks we have seen a lot of high heat and humidity, which is great for growing crops, the amount of Growing Degree Units we have seen so far this season is unbelievable! However this humid hot weather welcomes several yield robbing diseases, mainly grey leaf spot. Just Tuesday I was scouting one of our fields that was close to shooting a tassle and grey leaf was everywhere. Watch the video posted above and it will tell you where to start. These diseases start at the bottom and grow up, they are not real harmful until they reach the ear leaf, then they reek havoc on yield. Scout your corn heavily this week and weekend, I urge everyone who is seeing tassles to find the ear leaf and look for grey leaf spot a leaf or two below it. With all of this being said, you will have to decide once you want to treat the disease, does it make sense to simply spray fungicide over the top to treat a disease that starts at the ground? I do not think so. The Yield 360 Undercover system is the ideal way to treat grey leaf spot. Watch the video above to learn more about Yield 360 Undercover.
