Sheldon Nova
Sheldon grew up in Jersey City during the 1950s, a safe and close-knit working-class community at the time. Ambitious and determined, he decided to become a doctor during his senior year of high school. After earning a BA in Biology and Chemistry from Rutgers, he attended the University of Cincinnati Medical School, graduating in 1967. His surgical internship took him to Albany Medical College and New Jersey College of Medicine.
While interning in New Jersey and living at home, he met a local girl who was also pursuing her studies while living with her family. The two hit it off, married, and moved to New Haven, where Sheldon completed his residency in otolaryngology (ENT) at Yale in 1973.
After residency, Sheldon was drafted into the Army Medical Corps and began his clinical career at a 500-bed hospital at Fort Knox, Kentucky. Once discharged, he moved to West Hartford and started a solo private practice. His practice flourished and he took on partners as it grew. Meanwhile, he and his wife raised three children in West Hartford.
Sheldon continued practicing in the Hartford area until his retirement at age 78 in 2019. In 2021, he relocated to Westport to be closer to two of his children and four of his grandchildren.
Now enjoying retirement, Sheldon pursues his passions for music—classical, opera, and jazz—gardening, and, despite his self-proclaimed lack of skill, golf.
