New Member Spotlight:

This week, Y’s Man biographer extraordinaire, Clarence Hayes, penned the fascinating story of new member John Fatteross. Here is the abbreviated version. You can get the full bio on the Y’s Men website by clicking here.

John Fatteross

John Fatteross: Actor Turned Communicator

Born and raised in Hackensack, NJ, John was active in his high school’s theater program, landing roles in nearly every production. However, much as he loved acting, he chose a more practical path in college, earning a B.A. in English and Journalism from Rutgers in 1981.

After nearly a year working retail and scanning want ads during a tough job market, he landed an entry-level job at Panasonic. That early electronics experience helped him land a better role in Manhattan with an agency promoting the new IBM PC. He spent four years there before joining Ted Colangelo Associates in Greenwich in 1986. The quiet suburban social scene prompted him back into acting, and he became a regular in Fairfield County’s community theater world.

In 1993, John went out on his own, starting a branding and messaging consultancy. He aimed to earn half his prior salary in the first year—and ended up doubling it. Thirty-two years later, he’s still in business.

Soon after striking out on his own, John met his future wife through friends. She had grown up in the Hartford area and later became an executive at Rolex. They married in 1996 and raised two sons: Jack (UConn ’25) and Will (now a junior at Syracuse). A lifelong baseball fan, John passed that love to the family. They often take road trips built around MLB games—especially when the Mets are playing.
