New Member Spotlight:

Mark Burwick

Mark Burwick: D.D.S., Rock and Roll Dancer,

Tennis, Pickleball, Walking Enthusiast

Mark Burwick is from Connecticut…Not the New York suburbs of Westport, Weston, and Fairfield, but real Connecticut - Meriden! He attended the University of Vermont and the NYU College of Dentistry, then completed his internship at Waterbury Hospital, followed by many years of practice in Meriden.

He has been Co-Chairman of the Council of Continuing Education of the Connecticut State Dental Association, and also Chairman of the Y’s Men of Meriden. He retired from full-court basketball at age 64½. He’s been walking with the Y’s Men of Westport for many years. Mark and Myra spend their summers in Westbrook, Connecticut, at Stannard Beach.

Mark and his wife, Myra Skluth, M.D., Ph.D., are in their second marriages, meeting each other on JDate 21 years after their respective divorces. They both have 50-year-old daughters.

Myra, a graduate of Bryn Mawr College, initially obtained a Ph.D. in modern European intellectual history from Columbia University GSAS. After her divorce, she realized she wasn’t cut out for the academic life and decided to return to medical school. After graduating from Einstein, she became an internal medicine physician and returned to Norwalk to practice. She served as Chief of the General Internal Medicine Section at Norwalk Hospital while maintaining a private practice and as Associate Medical Director of Connecticut Hospice.

Mark’s daughter, Ally, also made a professional transition from a practicing CPA at PwC. She returned to school to obtain an M.A. in Education and now teaches Business at Newington High School in their Business Academy.

Mark’s granddaughter, Gabby, is an esthetician in Cromwell, CT, and runs her own business. His grandson, Dylan, is studying aeronautical engineering at WPI and obtained his pilot's license last year.

While Mark won't find an outlet for his interest in rock and roll dancing in the Y's Men

(at least not yet) he will find vibrant groups playing tennis and pickleball and walking.
