New Member Spotlight:

Peter Jennings

Peter Jennings: 11th Generation Westporter

A lifelong local resident who grew up in Green’s Farms, Peter can trace his family’s roots to the Town's founding and is proud to be an 11th-generation Westporter. His family has long been involved with commercial and residential property, and in his adult life, morphed into a career in commercial real estate and property management.

He started in 1982 with Cross & Brown, where he spent the first 28 years in the same office on Riverside Avenue through several transitions, and could be found at Junior Beilings “JR’s” hot dog stand, almost daily (and survived). He later formed his own company, Bayberry Property Management & Leasing, and moved up the street to 33 Riverside.  He has now “half-retired” as of the new year, keeping a handful of clients, his favorite of which is Homes With Hope, and has served them for an amazing 38 years.

A graduate of St. Vincent's College, he is a Registered Nurse and taught CPR to hundreds, who will hopefully remember their skills if he ever needs it. In addition to the day job, he worked at St. Joseph's and then Stamford Hospital as the evening Charge Nurse on the physical rehabilitation unit for a dozen years, as well as the Westport/Weston Health District, giving travel vaccines to many B3 kids before their service projects abroad.

He was honored to serve on the Board of Directors of the former Westport Historical Society for 22 years, during which he wrote "Buried In Our Past" about the history of the town’s 13 burial grounds, and later gave many cemetery tours, writing all the scripts for the docents.

Peter maintains the Jennings Trail, now under the auspices of the Westport Historic District, where, along with four other very talented local history buffs, he has expanded the “trail” in the past year by four sites to a total of 27.

He took the reins from his friend Allan Raymond and is now blessed to be the Green’s Farms Church Historian. His wife Melanie is a Social Worker on the Palliative Care Team at Danbury Hospital; they have four children between them, and two granddaughters, all mostly local.
