Achievement First CEO Lisa Margosian Discusses How Charter Schools Address the Large Education Gap in CT
The Y’s Men were treated on Thursday to an inspired discussion centered around how Charter schools are especially suited to address the challenging educational needs of our most neglected students.
The talk was co-led by Lisa Margosian, CEO of Achievement First Charter Schools, an organization of 41 schools in Connecticut, Rhode Island, and NYC and Andy Boas, Y’s Men member and Chair of the AF Network Support Board.
Andy noted that all charter school students are chosen by lottery, 94% are of color, and 14% have special needs. When asked what makes AF different from traditional public schools,
Lisa answered their mission was to provide a clear path to college supported by a commitment to providing an excellent education, skills to enhance self knowledge, and assistance in choosing a purposeful life.
Both Andy and Lisa reinforced their end goals of achieving 95% attendance and proficiency levels which are four times that of traditional public schools.
