Pulitzer-Nominated Author and Afghanistan Hostage

Jere van Dyk Speaks Tomorrow

Jere van Dyk

Pulitzer-nominated author Jere van Dyk will join the Y's Men this Thursday to share his story about his youth in Washington state and how this led him to Afghanistan and into the dark world of political kidnapping, with Jere being held hostage himself. He will discuss his work, with our enemies, to resolve the cases of missing American hostages in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran and Syria.

Journalist and writer van Dyk is:

  • U.S. hostage advocate: Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran and Syria.
  • Member, “Middle East Seminar,” Columbia University.
  • Board Member: “Foreign Press Correspondents in America."
  • Advisor: James W. Foley Legacy Foundation - an organization that advocates for American hostages and wrongful detainees held abroad and promotes journalist safety. (James W. Foley was an American educator, humanitarian, and independent conflict journalist who was kidnapped in 2012 while reporting in Syria. He was murdered by ISIS in 2014).
