Y's Men's Classical Music Society
Resumes Meetings September 1 With Vivaldi's "Four Seasons"
Tuesday, September 1 marks the downbeat for another year of monthly meetings for the Y's Men's Classical Music Society. And this year, the series begins with a multi-media performance of an audience favorite, Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons."
The work, including the poetry of the composer will be centerstage in live and video performances by ensembles from around the world and a recitation of Vivaldi's accompanying sonnets by Y's Man and noted international actor, director, producer and voiceover artist, James Naughton.
Y's Man Dr. Harold Sauer, the group's newly named co-chair will lead the meeting. And having visited the locale where the work was composed, he'll have stories and illustrative photos that should make the experience even more personal.
The meeting will be at the Westport Center of Senior Activities beginning at 2:45 pm on Tuesday, September 1. For reservations to attend, contact Ed Bloch at edbloch71@gmail.com. Y's Men, significant others and guests are all welcome.
Harry Sauer succeeds Y’s Men Past President Ed Bloch who has served the Society since its formation in 2016. Harry will co-chair the Society with Y’s Men Past President John Brandt.
Although Harry's career path led to medicine rather than music, he is a gifted amateur pianist. He has performed for the Society and earlier this year accompanied Flautist Aimee Toner in a concert for all the Y's Men and their guests. Harry is retired chair, department of obstetrics and gynecology, Yale New Haven Health; chair of Ob/gyn at Bridgeport Hospital in the Yale New Haven Health system; and a Clinical Professor at the Yale School of Medicine.

This opportunity is right in the wheelhouse of many Y’s Men!
First Selectman Kevin Christie is looking for residents to serve on a variety of Town boards, commissions, and committees. There are immediate openings on the Flood & Erosion Control Board.
It’s an opportunity to put your professional experience to work, stay engaged, and help shape decisions that impact Westport, including parks and recreation, housing, the environment, and more. The time commitment is very manageable.
And you don’t have to navigate it alone. Fellow Y’s Men Jim Marpe, former Westport First Selectman, and Dewey Loselle, former Westport Operations Manager, are both available to share their insights and help guide anyone interested in getting involved.
If you’d like to learn more or apply:

Email: volunteers@westportct.gov
A great way to give back and make a real difference in Westport.
| | Past President Mike Boyle Asks You to Share His 75th Birthday | | |
Mike Boyle
Dear Y's Guys:
As your most recent past president, I am inviting every single one of you to celebrate my 75th birthday with me on Wednesday, September 9.
This is NOT a party. Instead, I’m hoping you’ll stop by my home in Southport anytime between 11:00 am and 4:00 pm that day to say a fairly quick hi, allow me to give you a “Mike hug,” and have a piece of cake. Again, this is NOT a party. Please, NO PRESENTS!!! A card would be lovely, but is not necessary.
If more than one of you show up at once, you can share some Y's Men time with whomever is here. If no one is here but me, no worries. If you know me, great! If you don’t know me, don’t be shy. Stop by and introduce yourself.
As I said, all Y's Men are welcome! No pressure, of course. Just come if you’re interested. My address is 144 Osborne Lane in Southport.

Holocaust Memorial to Be Dedicated
at Fairfield University September 10
| | |
Sculpture entitled She Wouldn't Take Off Her Boots will be dedicated on Thursday, September 10 on the Fairfield University campus.
Fairfield County's first Holocaust memorial monument, She Wouldn't Take Off Her Boots, will be dedicated on thursday, September 10 at its permanent home on the Fairfield University campus. The installation was made possible by Y's Man Paul Burger, with support from several fellow Y's Men.
The memorial will serve as a testament to the role public art can play in community life and be a lasting place of remembrance, reflection, education, and engagement for people across Connecticut and beyond.
Paul founded the nonprofit Shoah Memorial Fairfield, CT to ensure the Holocaust and its lessons are never forgotten. Research indicates that many younger people don't know what "Never Again" refers to. Some even think the Holocaust was a hoax, or that it didn't happen. As Elie Wiesel said, “If anything can, it is memory that will save humanity.”
A fundraising Gala will follow on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, to support the sculpture's installation and an accompanying secondary-school curriculum on the Holocaust and genocide — material designed to meet Connecticut's mandate to teach this history in public schools.
The Gala: L'dor V'dor — "From Generation to Generation": Forging the Living Chain of Holocaust Remembrance will be at Il Palio Restaurant, Shelton, CT, October 13, 6:00 to 8:30 pm. Live and silent auction, with speakers including sculptor Victoria Milstein.
Tickets will be available soon. Click here to sign up for early access to tickets!

Any Interest in Tai Chi for Y's Men?
Tai chi is a Chinese martial art that was initially created for combat and self-defense. Over time it has been used by people of all age groups as a form of exercise and as a relaxation technique. It is practiced in set sequences that are sometimes referred to as 'meditation in motion'.
In China and elsewhere, it is often practiced outdoors, in parks or other public places. It does not require great strength, but is excellent for balance as well as psychological well-being.
Y's Man Rob Grodman is looking for a leader to meet up in somewhere like Winslow Park, which would be convenient for members, and allow for as many people as would be interested to participate. If anyone has any leads to find someone who is proficient in Tai Chi, that would be appreciated. Contact Rob at westportagent@hotmail.com or 203-952-6117.
