GIDG Topic Tomorrow: What's New in Russia

Tomorrow (Monday, July 27) at 9:00 am, the Global Issues Discussion Group's topic will be what's new in Russia. The Group will meet at the Saugatuck Congregational Church, Room 203-204.

For more information on GIDG, contact Y's Man Harvey Luft at harveyluft@gmail.com

Y's Men Gather at Compo Beach Tuesday Evenings

Join the Y’s Men at Compo Beach every Tuesday around 5:00 pm for a bring‑your‑own picnic and sunset at South Beach (weather permitting). Beach picnic rules apply; nothing made of glass. No beach pass is required if you tell the gatehouse you’re there for the Y’s Men event, but please use your stickered car if you have one.

Y's Men Play Bocce Every Wednesday Morning

Bocce meets every Wednesday at 10:30 am at Veterans Memorial Park, 909 Reef Road in Fairfield and runs until about noon; show up and play—no fees or registration—with six courts and restrooms on site.

For additional information, contact Y's Man Len Ances at ances@sbcglobal.net or

203-227-8218.

Thursday Morning Social Hour Continues at Compo

Y’s Men Social Hour provides complimentary coffee, donuts, bagels and great company.

Y’s Men loaded up with coffee during last Thursday’s Social Hour. It turns out your third cup of coffee isn't a guilty pleasure; it's heart-healthy. The American Heart Association just gave up to 5 cups a day the green light, linking this to lower risks of stroke, diabetes, and heart failure.

Celebrate with the Y’s Men Thursday mornings, 9:00 to 10:00 am, Compo Beach Pavilion! If you don’t have a beach sticker, tell the guard you are coming for the Y’s Men event. If you do have a beach sticker, please use that vehicle.

Y's Men and Guests Enjoy Travel Group's Travel Trivia Night

Scenes from the Y's Men Travel Discussion Group's travel trivia night last Thursday.

Y's Men and guests had a fun time last Thursday evening when the Y's Men Travel Discussion Group hosted a travel trivia night at Rizzuto's Oyster Bar & Restaurant. Sponsored by Fernleaf Travel and Celebrity Cruises, the event proved to be a lively evening of friendly competition, sharp wits, and camaraderie.

Congratulations to Table 7 and Grand Prize Winner Y's Man Bill O'Brien who came away with a great discount on a future Celebrity Cruise.

Many thanks to travel planner Angela Caes and her partners at Celebrity Cruises for providing the tasty food and drink. The perfect weather made the event even more enjoyable.

Bring Food for Yourself or to Share at Hot Dog Fundraiser

The Y’s Men Annual Hot Dog Festival fundraiser for Newman’s Hole in the Wall Gang Camp has become a Y's Men tradition. It's a picnic scheduled for Tuesday, August 4 beginning at 5:00 pm at Compo Beach South.

Bring an appetizer, side dish, dessert, wine or beer for yourself or to share to supplement the free hot dogs that highlight the event.

And remember, this always has been a successful Y's Men fundraiser, so bring cash or a check made out to Newman's Hole in the Wall Gang Camp.

Celebration of Life for Y's Man Tom Lowrie July 31

Tom Lowrie served as a US Navy air navigator during the Korean conflict.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Y's Man Tom Lowrie this Friday, July 31 at Green's Farms Church, 71 Hillandale Road in Westport. A family service will be in the Meeting Hall at 11:00 am immediately followed by a gathering at about 11:15 am.

Tom passed away Tuesday, June 30. He was a Y's man since 2005. Known as "Mr. Pickleball," he promoted the sport in Westport for many years.
