Please Show Y's Men Respect for Our Speakers

Speaker presentations on Thursday mornings are not complete until the Q&A session is finished. Please remain seated until then. If you must leave during the Q&A, sit in the rear of the room so you can slip out quietly. And avoid conversations until the Q&As are completed.

Tomorrow's Speaker Provides Insight Into Future of Finance

Annelise Osborne

Y’s Men will gain a front-row seat to the future of finance when Annelise Osborne, Chief Business Officer at Kadena, and a respected Westport resident, speaks at tomorrow morning's regular Thursday meeting.

Osborne, a veteran of Wall Street and a leader in digital assets, brings more than 20 years of experience, including senior roles at Moody’s and Arca Labs, as well as writing last year’s best seller, “From Hoodies to Suits: Innovating Digital Assets for Traditional Finance.”

If technical buzzwords in the news have left you feeling lost, this event is designed for you. She will tell (in plain English) how artificial intelligence, cryptocurrency, and blockchain are driving huge changes in finance. She will also explain how these changes are opportunities and challenges for individuals and institutions.

Y's Men Thursday morning meetings are in Hoskins Hall downstairs in the Saugatuck Congregational Church, 245 Post Road East in Westport. Coffee, donut and bagel social hour begins at 9:00 am, business meeting at 10:00 am, speaker at 10:30 am. Come early and meet your fellow members. Guests are always welcome.

The Tourney’s format will be Scramble or Best Ball utilizing a team of three or four players.

Please register for the outing by email to Bob Leng at leng_7@msn.com or text 978-289-0940. The registration deadline is Friday, October 3.

Peter Greenberg -- One of America's Most Popular Travel Journalists -- Journeys to Westport September 25

Peter Greenberg, the CBS News travel editor and author of "The Travel Detective," will speak at The Westport Library on Thursday, September 25 at 7:00 pm. The event is presented by the Y's Men's Travel Discussion Group.

To learn more about this very special guest, watch a brief video about him ("Peter Greenberg Worldwide Sizzle Reel") by clicking here.

Greenberg -- whose website offers a wide array of resources for travelers and industry insiders -- will be in conversation with longtime friend, colleague, worldwide traveler and Y's Man Allen Swerdlowe.

Through their dialogue you’ll get a feel for what it was like to report the news at the most politically active college campus during the turbulent 1960s.

Tickets are $20.00 and can be obtained on the library website: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/an-evening-with-peter-greenberg-the-travel-detective-tickets-1432093302619

Non-Fiction Book Club Revises Schedule

"Apollo 13," a book written by the late Astronaut Jim Lovell (and Jeffrey Kluger) on the Apollo 13 disaster, was to be the focus of the Y's Men Non-Fiction Book Club at its October 15 meeting. That topic will be discussed at the Club's meeting on Wednesday, December 10.

Instead, next month's meeting on Wednesday, October 15, will be devoted to a discussion of "Who is Government" by Michael Lewis. The Club meets at 2:00 pm in room 109 at the Saugatuck Congregational Church.

Y's Men Current Events Discussion Group Meets Weekly

A small group of Y's men meet weekly to discuss topics of mutual interest inspired by current events. That's the Y's Men Current Events Discussion Group.

There are two separate groups that meet on Wednesdays and Fridays at the Saugatuck Congregational Church at 10:00 am for an hour-long discussion.

The topic for discussion is selected by consensus at the previous meeting. Each of the two separate groups is limited to seven members so everyone attending can actively participate in the discussion. An additional Monday group may be added should there be sufficient demand.

Anyone interested in learning more about the Current Events Group or in joining it should contact Y's Man Tony Pranzo at tpranzo@yahoo.com.

To RSVP to meet the candidates at the Westport Center for Senior Activities on Friday, September 26: Lwvwestportct@yahoo.com

Y's Men Hot Dog Festival Raises About $7K For

The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp

At the Y's Men Hot Dog Festival are (left to right) Harvey Luft, Mike Guthman, Roy McKay, Dorothy and Jon Fox, Mike Boyle, Bob Mitchell, Al Landis, John Brandt, and Dena Poblete of the Camp.

Last week's Y's Men Hot Dog Festival at Compo Beach raised about $7,000.00 for The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp. A long standing Y's Men event, the Festival was once again spearheaded by Y's Man Jon Fox and his wife Dorothy.

Dena Poblete, the Camp's Manager of Special Events, attended the Festival and wrote the following (in part) to Dorothy and Jon:

Hi Dorothy and Jon,

Thank you for including us in your fun night at the beach Tuesday evening. Sam and I enjoyed talking with you and the Y’s Men members and wives. What a wonderful organization! We were able to hear some very interesting stories.

We appreciate your commitment to our cause year after year.

From Hot Dogs to Newman to Redford to Westport to Y's Men

The passing of Robert Redford yesterday speaks to the Y's Men's mission to champion engagement and connection to one another. It calls to mind a convergence of circumstances that are well worth acknowledging

One of Redford's best friends, our neighbor Paul Newman, joined him to celebrate their lives together in a short documentary. It features much of the ambiance of Westport and the Westport Country Playhouse as its prime shooting venue. It also captures some priceless gems of what it takes to nurture the lifelong friendship between these two extraordinary men. We would do well to emulate their dedication to each other and to living life to the fullest.
