Scammer Impersonates Y’s Men President

Following Meeting on Digital Fraud

Just minutes after the Westport Police Department briefed Y’s Men this morning on the growing threat of online scams someone tried to scam a Y’s Man.

Y’s Men President Mike Boyle reported that someone created a fake email address resembling his own and used it to send messages asking for Amazon gift cards, claiming they were intended as rewards for staff. The fraudulent message came from grtftr34@gmail.com, not Boyle’s legitimate address.

“Hey guys, watch out for an email from Mike Boyle. ‘Grtf34’—it’s not my email address!!!” Boyle warns in a note to members. “Great day to be hacked after our presentation today!”

In the spoofed exchange, member Larry Ackerman quickly spotted the scam and replied curtly, “go away,” after receiving a suspicious request for gift cards.

Members are urged to ignore and delete any similar messages and never purchase or share gift cards based on unexpected email requests.
