The Yale Alumni Chorus is pleased to announce the

2027 New Haven Reunion of Song!

Registration is open for YAC’s “Reunion of Song” event in New Haven, May 31 – June 3, 2027! This choral workshop-style event will occur on Monday through Thursday in between Yale reunion weekends. We have already received quite a bit of interest in participating in this event, so we encourage you to register and book your hotel rooms early.

The “Reunion of Song” workshop will be conducted by our very own Jeff Douma. For those of you who have been looking forward to the next opportunity to sing with Jeff, this will be an amazing chance to work on a variety of music including selections from the Bach St. Matthew Passion, the Beethoven Mass in C, spirituals, contemporary works, and traditional Yale songs.

In the spirit of reunion-style academic enrichment, we have organized a series of lunchtime lectures from outstanding Yale faculty to enhance our understanding of the music we are singing. Professor Paul Berry returns by popular demand to speak to us about how musical settings of poems can change and reinterpret the poetry in new and unforeseen ways. Professor Markus Rathey will speak to us about the world of the St. Matthew Passion, on the 300th anniversary of its composition. Professor Elizabeth Askren, the new director of the Yale Symphony, will explore the challenges of putting orchestra and chorus together for a major work like the Beethoven Mass in C. And finally, Professor Tom Duffy will share memories from his 4 decades as director of Yale Bands.

We also have fun social events planned, including a Welcome Dinner (including a murder mystery), Cabaret Night, and a closing “singing brunch” on Thursday morning. There will also be an informal “read-through” concert for family and friends on the evening of June 2.

Whether or not this is a reunion year for you, this is the perfect opportunity to spend few springtime days at Yale enjoying a rich singing experience with YAC. We are taking advantage of the “quiet” days in between reunion weekends to get block hotel pricing, and we’ve been able to keep the cost of the workshop very reasonable by taking advantage of local Yale resources.  As always, financial aid is available. We hope to see you this spring in New Haven!
