Dear Clergy and Wardens,
The Youth and Young Adult Ministries office is rolling out a new program to be able to let more youth and young adults participate in our “big ticket” events.
The program is called Volunteer Your Cost Down or VYCD. For all YAYA programs $200 or more, participants can do volunteer work at their church to lower the cost. For each hour of NEW volunteer work, they will reduce their cost by $50.
So for example, EYE costs $550. After paying a $50 deposit, the young person owes $500. After connecting with you and the two of you deciding where the young person can help, they will then lower the cost of EYE by $50 for every hour of service. With 10 hours of service, they pay for the event, and lots of people “win”.
A word on the service. I want the young person to do something they haven’t done a million times before. So please don’t count current service work. You can be creative in what they can do though. Of course, there is painting, cleaning, nursery care, joining the Acolytes or Altar Guild, but it could also be working with Vestry members on dreaming up a new____, or helping other members with who knows what. The purpose is to give you a chance to connect your young people into your church and to remove a barrier to them participating in the exciting programs we offer in the YAYA office.
While I would like to have the work done before they go on the YAYA event, if they promise you that it will get done, and you agree, then you can fill out the form for future work.
Please help me share this news with the young people and their parents in your setting.
If there are any questions that I can help answer, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
