Happy New Year to the Families
of Yelm Community Schools
It is wonderful to see students and staff return with great enthusiasm and jumped right back into learning.
Be Prepared for Weather and Closures
As the weather this weekend reminded us, we need to prepare our students for potential changes. Stay informed by checking our website or social media. Automated calls, emails and text messages will also be sent to guardians as soon as we have all the information to make a decision.
District News
Safety Series #2 - HIB/Cyber Bullying/Human Trafficking
Join us on January 16 for the second of four safety workshops to be h eld at Yelm Middle School. A special guest speaker, Khurshida Begum, will join us and share her personal story of human trafficking. We also have law enforcement, educators and Shared Hope joining our panel.

Join us at 5:30pm to visit with community organizations followed by the panel at 6pm. A limited supply of pizza has been provided by Costco.
Donate to Support Meal Balances
Last year we set up a donation account called the "Compassion Fund" at each school. So far we have received about $350. In prior years, our district had a very low negative balance amount (typically around $500 per year). However, that has changed because the 2018 legislature passed the "Hunger Free Students Bill of Rights" assuring all student will receive a full meal regardless of having money on their account.

One of the unintended consequences of that bill was a significant increase in unpaid meal debt at districts across the state. Yelm has over $21,000 in negative balances. If you would like to assist the students in Yelm, you can make a donation at any school or the district office.
If you have not registered or need to update your address, visit myvote.wa.gov to update your information. If you have registered but are currently living out of area, you can update your mailing address to have the ballot delivered to you. Go online by January 14. New registrations can be done in person by February 4 at the Thurston or Pierce County Election Office.
