Spotlight on Success

Twin sisters, Cassie and Courtney, were both fresh out of high school, yet neither one of them knew what career they wanted to pursue. Fortunately, before graduation, the girls met a YES to the Future Career Counselor who explained what the program could offer them. Upon graduation, they decided to enroll in YES together to find out what career they might enjoy.

After meeting with their YES Career Counselor and completing career interest surveys, Cassie found an interest in becoming a Dental Assistant and Courtney was interested in doing Front Office and Administrative work. Next, they created professional resumes and worked on their interview skills with the continued help of their Career Counselor.

About YES to the Future, Cassie stated, "It is a great program, it helped me find a career path I never thought I'd be in...a career that I enjoy!"

YES to the Future helped Cassie find a Paid Internship learning about the duties of a Dental Assistant at River Valley Health and Dental. Since Cassie had an amazing work ethic and desire to learn, YES, the PA Careerlink^® Business Services Team, and River Valley Health and Dental worked together to create an On-the-Job Training opportunity for her. She is now living her dream of being a Dental Assistant.

Courtney said, "The YES program gave me a wide variety of options and opportunities with what I want to do as a career."

Before long, River Valley Health and Dental offered a Paid Internship learning about some of the duties of a Front Office Assistant to Courtney as well! When Courtney demonstrated how invaluable of an employee she is, River Valley Health and Dental, YES, and the PA Careerlink^® Business Services Team worked together again to create an On-the-Job Training opportunity for her. Courtney is now working as a Front Office Assistant, a position that River Valley Health and Dental was unable to keep filled.

Thanks to the YES to the Future program, both Cassie and Courtney received supportive services, earned money while training in their jobs, and found careers that they love.

When Kaylee enrolled in YES to the Future, she knew she wanted to go to college.

Between working full-time at Emmanuel Home Personal Care as a dietary technician and enrolling as a full-time college student, Kaylee desperately needed a laptop to be able to succeed. With the help of her YES to the Future Career Counselor, Kaylee was able to secure funds from the Greater Susquehanna Valley United Way to purchase a laptop. She also worked with her Career Counselor to review her class schedule, participate in time management exercises, and learn college tools, tips, and tricks to help her feel confident.

Michele Erdman, one of Kaylee’s high school teachers said, “Kaylee works hard and is focused on what she wants to do. I’m so proud of how far she has come and excited to see what the future holds for her.”

Starting as a freshman neuroscience major at Susquehanna University in the fall of 2020, Kaylee was ready to learn thanks to being a participant in the YES to the Future program.

The YES Team is Enrolling!

The PA CareerLink^® YES to the Future Out of School Youth program is up and running! We are enrolling participants between the ages of 16 and 24. YES to the Future helps participants reach their personal employment and education goals by offering services such as paid internships, career exploration, job shadowing, and much, much more.

All eligible participants will receive individualized guidance and support throughout their enrollment in the program to achieve their goals.
