March 4, 2022

Hello Families!
It's hard to believe we've crossed into March!

This week we pulled winners from our goal raffle (Lexia/Dreambox/Drops or Baggie Books). We also hung up our Lexia banner. We earned this as a top performing school using our Lexia phonics program!

The next couple months include:
  • IAR assessment for 3rd grade (ELA 3/14-3/17 and Math 4/4-4/7)
  • Our librarian, 2nd grade teachers, and myself will present at an educator conference in Schaumburg
  • Spring Break
  • Book Fair/Art Show

Here's to a wonderful early spring ahead!

Being on Time for School:
Recently, the number of students arriving tardy has increased. Mornings are not always easy especially with the cold and snow! Thank you for prepping lunches, outfits, and backpacks the night before to help with being timely. This helps set the tone for the day. Please reach out if we can support with anything.

Lunch Update:
For lunch we continue to eat distanced. Students with cold lunches eat in our gym on their mat (or they can pick to eat in the cafeteria). Hot lunches eat in the cafeteria. 2nd graders space out in their classroom. When able, we will move all students back to the cafeteria.

Progress Updates:
In your child's folder you will see updates on his/her academic progress. This includes the NWEA Map reports. This is a computer based assessment your child takes 3 times a year in both reading and math. Want to learn more about how to understand your child's MAP report? View THIS video. You will also see an update on your child's reading level and the grade level expectation. Keep in mind where your child started and focus on growth and hard work. Feel free to reach out with any questions!

Did you know about Read with Paws?
Once a month on Saturday, PAWS brings their therapy dogs to the library. Children can come to the library, select a book and read to a furry friend. All therapy dogs and handlers have been certified by an accredited organization. This program was designed originally because children feel less pressure to read to a dog than an adult; so it was meant to be a way to help struggling readers or even just encourage reading. It is open to all levels of readers and non-readers. Please register for your 15 minute time slot at the Youth Services desk or by phone. Space is limited.

Upcoming Dates:.
