HURRICANE HELENE IMPACTS

Hurricane Helene had devastating effects on many Communities throughout the Southeast, but especially in the mountains of western North Carolina. We have contacted most of our Chapter members who may have been in harm’s way and are glad to report all are safe but continue to deal with issues around power, water, communication, provisions, and travel. A reminder that EAF (Emergency Assistance Fund) grants are available for those who may be facing financial hardships. Please let us know if you or someone you know needs support or additional information.

FALL FESTIVAL CANCELED!!!!

We are saddened to report that we will not be able to gather at Blue Ridge for our annual Fall Festival. Due to significant damage and loss to the Blue Ridge Campus infrastructure and buildings Blue Ridge issued the following announcement:

“We regret to announce that YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly will remain closed until further notice. As many of you know, Hurricane Helene's heavy rainfall caused catastrophic flooding throughout the WNC area, including the Town of Black Mountain and YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly. High winds also brought down trees and power lines, resulting in widespread outages of power, phone, and internet services. We are currently assessing the damage. Please do not call, as the phone lines are not operational. We will begin to reach out to upcoming groups as we can and will provide updates on social media. Please do not travel to the area.”.

If you have registered and paid for the Fall Festival via the Blue Ridge website, you may request a refund or allow Blue Ridge to redirect your payment toward their storm recovery efforts. We will forward directions for both options as soon as Blue Ridge is back online and able to respond to your request. Your patience and understanding are greatly appreciated!

The Blue Ridge Board and Staff are providing heroic effort and commitment to restoring The Mountain back to the gathering place where lives are changed for a lifetime! Please keep all who are involved in the recovery efforts in your prayers.

As Blue Ridge's recovery plan and needs become clearer, the Chapter Board will be developing a strategy of how our Chapter can best support the recovery efforts with time and resources. In the meantime, if you would like to learn more about the damage and recovery progress or make an immediate donation, please visit their Facebook page or website blueridgeassembly.org. They are updating the progress of the restoration daily.
