Family YMCA of Black Hawk County
Stay With Us - Our Community Needs YOU
Dear Members:

We hope you are well and safe. The YMCA has missed the smiling faces of our members, cheerful conversations and a busy lobby area. Our Y is quieter these days, but we are hard at work addressing emerging needs in our community related to the COVID-19 crisis.

The Y has lived through crisis before, and as has been done in previous generations, we come together in the name of humanity. Just like it’s been for 152 years, our Y is here for good. Thank you for your patience as we communicate the effects of this current situation. It’s been a complicated moment for everyone, and we appreciate you bearing with us. Right now, we’re asking you to stick with us if you can. Your continued membership and support will ensure the Y is able to meet vital community needs during this time. We will be stronger and more able because of you.

Help Us by Keeping an Active Membership
We need all hands-on deck. Members who continue to pay their monthly membership dues are our Sustaining Members – because they are helping us be resilient during this chaotic time. As a thank you for standing with us, we're offering $10 per active individual or couple facility membership, and $15 per active family facility membership, in Y Bucks for each month that we are closed . Y Bucks can be used like cash on personal training, classes, camps, and other programs (membership dues excluded). Y Bucks will be provided at your request upon our reopening and must be activated within two weeks and used within one year. No action is required to remain a member, and we can’t thank you enough for your support.

We’re in this Together
Thank you for working with us to create history that demonstrates how we came together and served those who needed us the most. Right now that means supporting the medical community and others who employ essential personnel by providing emergency child care (see more about that effort below). Together we will overcome this challenge, and I believe this will be a story we share with future generations, not only for our Y, but for our whole community.

We are learning a lot in real time, and we’re adapting. Most importantly, we know this is not forever. We want to stand by you during this difficult time and ask that you stand by us as well. There’s a bright future ahead - we will get there together.

In kindness and with hope,

Angela Widner, CEO

YMCA Emergency Childcare Update

Our Y has mobilized to provide emergency childcare for essential personnel who play vital roles in maintaining the well-being and health of the community (health care providers, care of elderly/vulnerable populations, public safety, food supply, etc.). We need those individuals to be supported now more than ever. They will face great challenges in the days and weeks to come as they hold up our healthcare system, treat patients, care for the vulnerable, and ensure every person has access to food and basic needs.

We are working in a collaborative endeavor with our local healthcare systems, Waterloo Schools, Cedar Falls Schools, Child Care Resource and Referral, and many others. We ask for your prayers as we step into this important work.
Stay active and connected!
