We are so excited to kick off the New Year with some great health and wellness education programs for everyone in our community. These are researched based programs with proven results.
Diabetes Prevention Program
The YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program gives you the skills you need and the support you deserve to make lasting healthy lifestyle changes and reduce your risk of developing type 2 diabetes. The next class is scheduled to start on Tuesday, Feb. 5th at 1:00pm. We encourage anyone who is interested in our Diabetes Prevention Program to come to our information screening on January 22nd from 12:30pm-3:30pm
at the Nir Family YMCA
to see if you qualify.
Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring
If you have hypertension and would like support with monitoring blood pressure at home and making some healthy lifestyle changes to help lower blood pressure, then the Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring Program may be the right program for you. In this program you will meet with a trained and certified Healthy Heart Ambassador twice a month and learn how to check blood pressure with monitor and track your readings. Moving For Better Balance
Is it time to improve your balance and reduce your risk of falls? If you are an adult 60 years or older, and able to walk without the use of a cane or walker, the YMCA Moving for Better Balance, Tai Chi based Program may be the right program for you. In this 12 week program participants receive a binder illustrating Tai Chi moves learned in class as well as strengthening exercises that you can practice at home to increase strength and balance. This program is an evidenced based program and has shown to significantly reduce risk of falls. Learn more at our information session on January 22nd from 12:30pm-3:30pm at the Nir Family YMCA.
Healthy Weight & Your Child
Do you have a child who is carrying excess weight? Would you like support to help you and your child make some healthy lifestyle changes? Through the YMCA Evidence Based Healthy Weight & Your Child Program, you will have others in the group who also share similar challenges. This program offers guidance with making lifestyle changes to help you and your child develop the awareness and improve healthy eating as well as discovering fun ways to get more active.
Information and Screening: Friday February 22nd 5:30-7:30 pm at our Midtown YMCA. It is important to attend this screening in order to see if your child qualifies for this program. Our First class will start on Friday, March 8th.
