"Water is My Medicine"
New Hot Tub Now Open at Nir Family YMCA!
| |
This special space was made possible thanks to generous donors, including longtime member Dr. Jyotsna Shah, who dedicated her gift in memory of her late husband, Dr. Ramesh Shah.
For the Shah family, the hot tub represents healing and strength. Between 1971 and 2001, Ramesh enjoyed a successful career as an OB-GYN, but during his tenure, he developed knee problems that eventually required surgery. After moving into a home with a hot tub, he adopted a routine of using it each morning and evening, which allowed him to postpone surgery for more than seven years. As Jyotsna shared: “Water is my medicine. The Y is my life.” We’re honored to share their story and excited to welcome members to enjoy this new addition!

Katelin Harmon, our new Swim Lessons Coordinator, fell in love with the water as she grew up swimming competitively and lifeguarding in high school. She swam on the UNC club swim team and continued to teach lessons throughout her college years. After graduating, she moved to Wilmington and is looking forward to being part of the YMCA community. Welcome, Katelin!
