September is Childhood Obesity month. Childhood obesity is a major public health problem. Children who are obese are at higher risk for other health conditions and disease such as type 2 diabetes, back and joint problems, sleep apnea and more. Childhood obesity could be caused by factors such as, lack of physical activity, access to unhealthy foods, lack of nutrient rich foods and not getting the required amount of sleep. Some ways that we can help prevent children from obesity are cooking healthy meals at home, ensuring that they get the recommended hours of sleep, turning off their devices and encouraging them to engage in more physical activities and limiting the consumption of sugary drinks and replacing them with water.
