Mentor 2.0 Training

You're an awesome mentor, and we don't want you to forget that YMI is here to support you.

Whether you've been volunteering with YMI for 6 months or 5 years, there's always room to learn which is why we created this new opportunity called Mentor 2.0.

Mentor 2.0 is an opportunity to come together with your fellow mentors to share while also reviewing YMI policies, communication styles, learning how to implement growth mindset, and more.

Please consider joining us for one of our fall Mentor 2.0 sessions. If interested, email Megan to reserve your spot -- space is limited, but sessions are also at risk for cancellation if there's not enough participation. I'd love to spend a morning with you!

Important Dates & Updates

YMI is Expanding! Our mentoring program will grow into elementary schools with the support of a grant from Lilly Endowment, Inc. and their Strengthening Youth Programs in Indiana initiative. The focus will be on students in 3rd and 4th grades. For more information, you can view our press release.

Info Session - YMI continues to see a need for more male mentors, and our waiting list grows. If you know a few caring adults who have an hour to spare weekly, please consider sharing our upcoming virtual Info Session with them.

This 30 minute session, on November 8 @ 8:30 am, is a no-strings-attached way to learn more about YMI and ask questions. Interested individuals must register HERE.

In the Community - YMI would love to meet with your organization, club, peer group, or friends. Please contact Megan or complete our Contact Us form if you'd like to schedule a "how to get involved with YMI" conversation.

QPR - It's smart to be prepared. Consider joining a Question, Persuade, Refer Suicide Prevention training. Indiana Center for Prevention of Youth Abuse and Suicide has two hour sessions available this fall.

Schoolhouse 7 - YMI has partnered with Schoolhouse 7 to provide student decorated coffee sleeves in-house this week. It's a great way to raise awareness about our growing organization. Please consider supporting local at Schoolhouse 7 this week!

Giving Tuesday - Giving Tuesday is a global movement centering around generosity. With YMI's expansion, we need your support to reach as many students as ever. We're looking for Mentor Giving Ambassadors to help us engage new donors. Interested? Please email Brittany for next steps.

Mentor's Corner

It's almost November which means we've been back in the schools for over 2 months. How are things going? A few things for you to consider as the end of the semester nears.

Let's check in...

...with yourself. Is mentoring with YMI meeting your expectations? Do you have personal boundaries in place? Do you feel "stuck"? (join me at Mentor 2.0!)

...with your match. Consider our Mentoring Relationship Evolution (to the left). Where are you on this cycle? Where would you like to be? Remember -- it's not always a linear path!

...with your mentee's guardian. YMI recommends quarterly "touch-bases" with your student's guardian. It's a great opportunity to remind them you're meeting with their child weekly, enjoying the experience, and have seen positive growth.

...with your Campus Coordinator. Connect with your CC and let them know how you're doing with the three above check-ins. How can YMI help in your mentoring journey? We're here to support you!
