'Mentor Monthly' Newsletter

September 2023
And we're back in it!
School has started. Matches are back in the schools. Everything is moving forward... including new student referrals!

We made 18 new matches in August and took the phrase "hit the ground running" to a new arena. We were so excited to get some of our long-waiting mentees and mentors matched.

But we still have a lot of work to do. We currently have 46 students onboarding. While we had a great August, we still need many more mentors to meet the demands.

Mentor's Corner
It's goal setting season!

This fall each match will work together to set a mentee goal. This exercise is less about the goal itself, and more about the connection through the activity.

GOAL SETTING BEST PRACTICES
  • We encourage mentors to set a goal alongside their mentees. This helps normalize the practice.
  • Occasionally check in on the goal
  • Work to set realistic goals. Students are familiar with the five categories as it mirrors HSE and will be given example goals within each set.
  • Progress over perfection. It's just as much about the journey as it is the destination.
