BUSINESS BLOCK WATCH PILOT PROJECT SEEKS EXPANSION

A locally driven response to business concerns is gaining momentum — demonstrating what can happen when businesses, community partners, local government and the Chamber work together.

The Cranbrook Chamber of Commerce is pleased to share an important milestone for the Cranbrook Business Block Watch Pilot Project: an initiative that began at the grassroots level, in direct response to concerns from local businesses, was presented by the City of Cranbrook to the Province of British Columbia at the 2026 Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) convention. Click on the button below to see City of Cranbrook's photos photos from UBCM.

Businesses from Cranbrook’s industrial area came together with the Chamber and the Community Policing Liaison, with Cranbrook Chamber member Canadian Rockies Landscape becoming an important leader in helping move a Business Block Watch concept forward.

HOW CAN WE WORK TOGETHER

TO SLOW THE INCREASE IN PROPERTY TAXES?

The Cranbrook Chamber of Commerce has been working with the City of Cranbrook, proposing that the extensive knowledge and experience of our members should be leveraged as a community asset.

We asked our members for their feedback, and received a lot of great ideas. We’ve been working with the City toward a year-over-year approach to annual budget consultation. We’ve asked the City - what would be the most useful things for you to know from businesses? What time of year would you like to hear that info? And they’ve answered the call.

We’ll be embarking on a joint learning session together so that the City can inform the Chamber about how the budget process works and what the annual cycle looks like. We’ll overlay the findings with our own calendar and build out a sustainable working model. And we’ll bring our ideas to the City for revenue generation and support for a working model for a more collaborative Cranbrook.
