WEEKEND OPEN STUDIO AT MOOR HALL
with
ART VAN GO
16th and 17th November 2019

Do make a note of this date in your diary as I am sure you will want to join me here. What will you see when you are here? Well some wonderful work of the students, which will also be for sale, along with several other goodies making it an ideal place to do some Christmas shopping. Art Van Go will be joining us on the Sunday with their shop making your trip here even extra special.

It will also be an opportunity to see the new courses that will be on offer in 2020 and better still an opportunity to book on one or more unless of course you get to do so before this event.

This is the current line-up of tutors, but bookings are not live just yet:

Ruth Issett, Sarah Burgess, Jean Littlejohn, Ruth Kirkby, Matthew Harris, Amanda Clayton, Dorothy Tucker, Jan Beaney, David Tress, Alice Fox, Sue Brown, Jean Draper and of course myself  Bobby Britnell

Light refreshments will be available.

If you are travelling some distance do check out local B&B's in the area that are featured on my  Website

So see you there .
GERMANY and AUSTRIA

Well since arriving back from Germany and Austria I have to tell you that I was struck down by something horrible which resulted in me, ending up in hospital with complete kidney failure. That was on the 11th July and I am only just now beginning to feel myself again, although energy levels are still somewhat depleted. I am still having blood tests and doctor appointments, but am heading in the right direction.
Hurrah!!!

Unfortunately it has meant all that planned drawing and creative work has not been done, but I am surrounded by it as I write this so that is a good sign.

The exhibition in Germany went well and is still running until the 8th of September. Austria was also fun seeing all the family again and visiting a few places. Below is a sculpture park that we visited.

I just loved this sculpture park. It was closed when we went, so could not look inside the museum, but could see all the amazing sculptures outside. I was particularly taken by the marks in the wood, made both naturally and by hand. Some of the works were monumental.

Here I am with Martin and three of my cousins having a relaxing day on the beautiful Wörthersee Lake.

MOOR ART 1 and 2

Many of you will know that I have been running art classes for many years now. Some of the students have been coming since the groups started others have drifted in and stayed a short while, while others have stayed longer.

Often people say it is a fear of drawing that keeps them away, others that the garden is calling or other demands on their time. Whatever the reason why not give it a try. I offer 6 sessions (£35 x 6 = £210). BUT if you wish to come along just to the first session to see if you fancy the full course then please do (£50 if you just stay for the one class), reduced to £35 if you stay the course!!!!

Here is some of the work that students did last term. This first project had students looking at two different collections of objects, One was floral and the other was more hard edged. After detail observational drawings of each set of objects the students then had to find a way of bringing them together in a composition. Students worked on A1 cartridge paper. I loved the results.

Another project had students decorating papers in different ways and then using these papers in different collage work, which were landscape, abstract and representational. This is just a very small taste of what they did.

In these last two examples the student has completed a collage of the vase of flowers and then she did a tonal drawing of the collage. I love the liveliness in these two pieces.

CECILY SASH
1924 ~ 2019

It is with great sadness that I must tell you of the death of Cecily Sash. Cecily was born in Delmas, Transvaal, South Africa, where she was to become well known both as an artist and teacher. In the 60's she travelled extensively in the UK,  Europe and America and when she returned to South Africa, she returned revitalised and with renewed vigour, and all that she had learnt, was to be of great benefit to her pupils and also influenced her own work. Her art became very collectable, but this success coincided with Apartheid and consequently she was forced to leave her native country and came to England.

She was teaching well into her 90's and her influence as a teacher is considerable. Being an artist and teacher,  were two things that she just had to do and this is what kept her going. It gave her purpose and the students so enjoyed her company, as much as she did theirs.

Cecily maintained within herself a relentless passion for drawing and is just as tough on her own work as she is on her students. Her teaching of art has impacted greatly on my personal creative development as a textile artist. She has opened my eyes to so much and for that I will always be grateful. When asked 'what great artist inspires you' for me it is Cecily Sash. ....THANK YOU CECILY.
