Dear Friends,
Through your support of Charting Careers, you are making good things happen!
SCHOLARS ARE ENGAGED IN ENRICHING SUMMER EXPERIENCES: Our staff and mentors helped our elementary through rising senior scholars enroll in summer camps and set up internships. One scholar will have her debut on stage this October with a production of The Wiz (directed by Ron-Shaye Clark, who is also one of our newly-hired Community Navigation Specialists). Two high school scholars obtained their first job with one of our partners, the Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park.
PROGRAM ENROLLMENT AND FAMILY GOAL SETTING: Our staff has been busy conducting home visits with scholars and their parents/caregivers. During these important meetings, staff gather critical permissions for the year and have conversations about how to best partner with each family. Many families set goals we then help support. For example, some families shared they wanted to get their COVID-19 vaccines, so our team helped facilitate rides and appointments. Other families have shared mental health needs, so our team helped families connect with mental health providers.
A RENEWED CONTRACT WITH AACPS TO EXPAND OUR REACH AND DEVELOP COMMUNITY HUBS: We are thrilled to share that Charting Careers has entered into a renewed contract with Anne Arundel County Public School’s Office of Equity to develop Community Hubs in Annapolis public and subsidized housing neighborhoods. We are working in partnership with People Builders Consulting, Newtowne CDC, and the Collaborative Supporting Youth to increase student academic success and overall well-being by building relationships with students and families, identifying unmet needs, helping families more equitably access existing AACPS resources, and connecting students and families with other community supports and opportunities.
We are so grateful to the many donors and volunteers who continue to allow us to support and partner with scholars and their families! Together, we are making good things happen.
With gratitude,
Erin Snell, PhD

Some of our scholars, a parent, and staff, including Leon Thomas, III (our Director of College & Career Readiness) and Nyia Curtis (our recently-hired Special Projects Coordinator & Parole Community Navigation Specialist), were able to take a trip to the Maryland Science Center this summer to have fun, explore, and learn about different possible careers in the sciences.
