| YOU Make us Winners! Thanks to everyone who took part in the GREAT CANADIAN GIVING CHALLENGE!
Although we didn't win the $10,000 we were hoping for, your donations gave us a great chance! And the real winners are our clients.... With the $500 raised, we now have colour and beauty in our Pilgrims garden. If you missed the Challenge, you can DONATE NOW to help raise $1,000 in July, allowing us to buy a fire pit and new garden furniture for our clients to ease back into and enjoy. |
| Compassionate Fund For end-of-life needs, the Canadian Cancer Society offers modest financial support to cancer patients who have been diagnosed as palliative and have exhausted all other means of financial support. Referrals are accepted from healthcare providers. A booklet, Living with Advanced Cancer, is also available for people who have been diagnosed with advanced cancer - and for their caregivers. It offers practical information and support to help you get started in caring for yourself and for each other, as you learn to live with advanced cancer. Physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs are described in the booklet. To receive a copy, or for more information, contact Maria Hayes, Community Engagement Coordinator, at 780-437-8424 or email Maria.Hayes@cancer.ab.ca |

Volunteers - You Rock!

Karaoke Queens: SherryLee, Kerri & Debby Harink |
Volunteers were treated to a fun "pub-style" appreciation night at the end of June. Our amazing volunteers truly are "the hands and heart" of Pilgrims Hospice.
Between the hilarity of various karaoke acts, Debby Harink, our Volunteer Manager, gave a simple message to all our amazing volunteers:
"Thank You, YOU ROCK!"

We're HUGE Esks fans!
On Saturday, June 13, the Edmonton Eskimos scored a 31-24 win against the
Saskatchewan Roughriders. Good news, yes, but great news for Pilgrims Hospice....
At our recent Walk In My Shoes gala, Len Rhodes, Esks President & CEO, pledged $100 for every point scored during this match - totalling a winning amount of $3,100 for Pilgrims.
Thanks, Len and the Esks, for your great team spirit!

Our Funding In 2014 we received 12.2% of our funding from the government, through our Partnership with Alberta Health Services - so Foundation Grants, Donations (both Corporate and Individual) and our Fundraising efforts are vital to our existence.
Please support our Programs with your donation or participation in our Special Events. Thank you.

Here's to Henry!
|
|
| Volunteer Henry tends our garden |
Henry has been with Pilgrims Hospice since the fall of 2007, and is now an integral part of our Wednesday group. He has helped shape the Adult Day Respite Program on Wednesdays into the fun and "light" day that it is. Henry brings us his humour, which keeps us all laughing from morning to afternoon (although we'd never tell him that). He also brings compassion to the group and beauty to the yard, with his exceptional gardening skills. And of course he brings pickles - and lots of them! According to Henry, pickles go with everything... even pancakes...and we appreciate his carefree approach to everyday life. As a retired CN employee, Henry has also secured $500 for us for the past 3 years running, from the CN Stronger Communities Fund. Thank you Henry for all you do for us. We appreciate your ways, your time and your effort! |
