✍️ Message from the Founder
August invites us to pause, breathe, and reset.
It’s a month devoted not only to sunshine and self-renewal, but also two vital observances: Suicide Prevention Awareness Month and National Recovery Month.
Together, they remind us that caring for our whole selves—and one another—is both urgent and essential.
For college students, this season of transition often brings a mix of excitement and challenges. New responsibilities, new communities, and new pressures can leave many young adults feeling overwhelmed or isolated.
Studies show nearly 70% of college students report struggling with their mental health, and suicide remains one of the leading causes of death for this age group. Add to that the rising rates of substance use as a way to cope, and the need for compassionate, integrated care has never been clearer.
At Wholistic Counseling PC, we believe in supporting students through a wholistic lens—addressing the mind, body, and spirit together. This means creating safe spaces where young adults can:
- Learn tools for stress and anxiety management
- Build healthy boundaries and supportive relationships
- Explore pathways to recovery without shame
- Develop resilience and hope for the future
This month, as we honor Suicide Prevention Awareness Month and National Recovery Month, we want every student to know: recovery is possible, healing is possible, and your life matters.
Whether through therapy, peer support, or small daily practices that restore balance, each step toward wellness is a step toward a brighter future.
If you or someone you love is in college and struggling, please know you are not alone. Help is here. Together, we can nurture a culture of care where young adults are empowered not just to survive college—but to truly thrive.
With Care and Gratitude,
Julia Schubert, LCSW

National Recovery Month
National Recovery Month, observed every September since 1989, is a time to celebrate hope, healing, and the strength of individuals who are walking the journey of recovery. It shines a light on the millions of Americans who have reclaimed their lives through recovery, while honoring the families, service providers, and communities that stand beside them.
This year’s theme continues to highlight evidence-based treatments, innovative recovery practices, and the power of peer and community support. It also reminds us that recovery is not a destination, but a lifelong journey—one made possible through compassion, connection, and resilience.
At Wholistic Counseling PC, we believe recovery flourishes when the whole person is supported—mind, body, and spirit. That means creating space where individuals feel safe to share their stories, where stigma is replaced by understanding, and where healing can happen in both expected and unexpected ways.
Recovery is about more than overcoming substance use or mental health challenges; it’s about rediscovering joy, rebuilding relationships, and reclaiming purpose. Each person’s path may look different, but every journey is worthy of celebration.
This September, as we honor National Recovery Month, let us stand together in hope:
- For those still struggling—that they find courage and community.
- For those in recovery—that their strength continues to grow.
- For families and providers—that their love and dedication never waver.
Recovery is possible. Healing is real.
And no one is ever alone on this journey.

Suicide Prevention Awareness Month
Each September, we pause to recognize Suicide Prevention Awareness Month—a time to raise awareness, share resources, and remind our community that every life holds immeasurable value.
Suicide is one of the leading causes of death in the United States, and it touches people of all ages, backgrounds, and walks of life.
Yet behind every statistic is a person—a story—that could be changed through compassion, understanding, and access to support.
At Wholistic Counseling PC, we believe suicide prevention begins with connection. When individuals feel seen, heard, and valued, hope can take root. Our approach integrates care for the mind, body, and spirit, helping clients build resilience, manage stress, and find healthier ways to cope with pain.
This month reminds us of three vital truths:
- You are not alone. Struggles with mental health are more common than many realize, and reaching out is a sign of courage, not weakness.
- Help is available. Evidence-based counseling, peer support, and community resources save lives every day.
- Every conversation matters. Simply checking in with a friend, co-worker, or loved one can open the door to healing.
As we observe Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, we stand in solidarity with survivors, families, and advocates. Together, we can replace silence with dialogue, stigma with understanding, and despair with hope.
If you or someone you know is struggling, please reach out.
Call or text 988, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, for immediate support.
You are not alone. Help is here.

College Age: Mental Health
| |
by Wholistic Counseling
The college years are often described as “the best years of your life”—a time of discovery, independence, and growth. Yet for many young adults, this season can also bring unexpected challenges. Between academic demands, financial pressures, new social dynamics, and questions about the future, it’s no surprise that mental health has become one of the most pressing concerns on college campuses today.
Recent studies show that nearly 70% of college students report struggling with their mental health, with anxiety, depression, and stress at the top of the list. Suicide is now the second leading cause of death among young adults, and more students than ever are seeking support for issues like loneliness, sleep problems, and substance use.
At Wholistic Counseling PC, we understand that wellness is not just about surviving the semester—it’s about thriving as a whole person.
Our wholistic approach meets students where they are, helping them:
- Build coping skills to manage stress and anxiety
- Develop resilience in the face of academic and personal challenges
- Strengthen healthy relationships and supportive connections
- Discover balance through mindfulness, movement, and self-care
- Find hope in times of discouragement or uncertainty
We believe that college-age individuals deserve care that honors both their struggles and their potential. By supporting the mind, body, and spirit, counseling can empower students to not only make it through college, but to emerge stronger, healthier, and more confident in who they are becoming.
This fall, as students return to campus, let us remember: behind every backpack is a person carrying more than books. A simple conversation, a word of encouragement, or a safe place to talk can make all the difference.
At Wholistic Counseling PC, we are here to walk alongside students every step of the way—because no one should have to face these years alone.

We believe in a team approach and value collaboration with trusted community partners.
Self-defense training is crucial for children as it empowers them with the skills and confidence to protect themselves in potentially dangerous situations.
It helps to build their awareness and understanding of personal boundaries, making them less likely targets for bullying or abduction.
Additionally, self-defense classes often instill discipline, respect, and physical fitness, contributing to their overall well-being and development. Learning self-defense can also reduce anxiety and boost their self-esteem, knowing they have the ability to defend themselves if necessary.
